Zwift racing’s back! And for the 2024/25 season of the Zwift Racing League there are road.cc teams that you can be a part of. We’ll be tearing it up in the Open EMEA-W Eastern leagues all winter. And possibly other time zones too, if there’s enough demand. Get involved!
Round 2: Points Race, Sugar Cookie (37.8km)
Some Interesting fiddling behind the scenes preceded this round, which saw the category C Chopper team promoted to the top C league. Which was great, except then we came last in that league, so we lost a bunch of points. Anyway, an hour of racing loomed, with four sprints to contest, and a punchy climb near the end to make some selections.
Road.cc Baller Division (B)
Absolute scenes in the Bs as the Ballers, off the back of a last place in the team time trial, took the win through Joseph White, who managed to sprint away from the select group who made it over the final climb to pick up maximum finish line points.
Simon Dickson also made it into the top 10, with Robert Sweatman and Adam Reynolds not far back in 14th and 15th place. With a hatful of sprint points picked up along the way, that was good enough for a 4th place on the night and moves the team up to fifth in the table. A top night all round!
Road.cc Chopper Division (C)
A solid performance from (most of) the Choppers too, with Iwein Dekoninck snagging a third place which, along with some serious sprint points, made him the second-highest scorer in the whole race, with 105 points. Almost as many as the whole of the last-placed team!
Dan Jones was a creditable 14th, and Dave Churchill (32nd), Dave Pottinger (40th) and Rich Livingstone (42nd) all made good contributions. 5th on the night, and that pulls us up to 7th in the league after two rounds.
And me? Well, it wasn't my night. I picked up some points in the first sprint but I never felt right and in the end I climbed off after about half of the race, genuinely feeling like I was going to faint. Probably a combination of struggling with a cold all week and then just going too hard. Bah.
Next week is a scratch race: no sprints, just hang in there until the end. Let's see if I do...
We’re still looking for more riders to fill out the rosters of both the B and the C teams. There are four more rounds in this season, and then two more seasons through the winter. Get involved! Head to this form to register your interest. We’re looking for A and D riders too for next season!
