The Hampshire Hilly Hundred
The HHH, now in its 9th year, is one of the UK's senior sportives. Independent, it remains an event organised by cyclists for cyclists, pure and simple. The course has been refined over consecutive seasons, and offers the super-challenging HHHMAX route (100 miles) and the still demanding HHHMIDI (approx 78 miles). The well-signed and equally well thought-our routes follow roads with amazingly little traffic which lead riders through some superb Hampshire coutryside that is at its best (and greenest) in the second week of May.
As one would expect from its name, there are plenty of hills in the HHH, but it's not relentless - there are stretches where it's possible to turn a decent gear, and there are no "cliff face" climbs - though if you go too hard on Butser Hill it can have you walking the steepest section. The HHH should not be underestimated. It has more total metres of ascent/descent than most UK sportives.
The HHH is based yet again at Sparsholt College, near Winchester, taking advantage of its excellent facilities, including on-site parking close to the Start/Finish, refreshments, lounge area, showers and changing rooms. Third Party event insurance, first-aid and ambulance cover, mechanical support, full route signage, printed route directions, and quality feed stations are all provided.
