Thrills, hills and hopefully no spills! High Above Hay is a gloriously scenic sportive from Hay into the Black Mountains and beyond.
Using quiet country roads riders will travel through the Welsh borderlands visiting the three counties of Powys, Monmouthshire and Herefordshire. Choose from a challenging 160km figure-of-eight or a 105km loop – still a big day out! Feed stations en-route will keep you fuelled so you can enjoy the dramatic finish to the full - a thrilling descent from the iconic and very beautiful Gospel Pass. This is Wales' highest driveable road but who would want to witness it in a car? By bike it's so much more fulfilling and you will have earned a large slab of cake by the time your back down to earth again on the banks of the Wye.
New to sportives? A sportive is a non-competitive, mass-participation cycling events. There is no ride leader but the route is very well-signposted (maps and GPS download also available if required). As well as feed stations along the route, a back-up vehicle provides emergency support and you'll receive a goody bag. It's not a race but the event is timed, so you can aim for a personal best!
