After many successful years raising money for various charities across the UK the No Excuses Series comes to Carlisle, Cumbria for 2018. Setting off from Carlisle Racecourse just to the south of Carlisle City Centre, we steer clear of the fells for this early season sportive and explore the flat flowing roads and some of the coastal routes of northern Cumbria.
First off, we take a westerly path crossing over the river Caldew and passing through the village of Dalston before pushing on to Kirkbampton to set us on the most direct route to our seaside destination. As soon as you reach the aforementioned village you will be rewarded on a clear day with views out over the Solway and across to Scotland. This fast-flowing road will keep the glorious views in sight for its duration and will carry you through to Abbeytown where the course will split sending Standard riders south-east away from the coast and towards Wigton. The Epic riders will continue on our coastal path to the wonderful Victorian seaside town of Silloth at which point you will have some fun negotiating the cobbles along the seafront, however, this will only be short lived as we soon head out of town for westerly sea views.
Now heading in a southerly direction, we head for the picturesque Allonby before shortly after taking an easterly steer toward Aspatria at which point we head North again to re-join the Standard riders in Abbeytown. Once all courses have converged all riders head east on the same path to Wigton at which point we take a small detour avoiding the centre of town. Keeping Warnell Fell to our right we head closer to home, after crossing the river Caldew for the final time we head north on the most direct route, with a final surprising climb through the small hamlet of Highbridge you will then be rewarded with long smooth stretch for the last few miles to help get your average back up before the finish line!
Everyone who enters either the £40 Epic or Standard routes and turns up on the day will receive a full refund after the event. For those who enter and don't turn up, that money gets donated to charity. If you do ride the event and would rather your entry fee go to a good cause, feel free to let us know.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed a "Half an Excuse" entry option as well. This price tier is for those who want to secure a place in this sell-out event, but are unsure if they will make it on the day. This entry fee will not be refunded regardless if you turn up on the day or not but at least it's only half the normal fee, so no shows won't lose out as much. Those who do turn up having entered the Half an Excuse routes get to ride an awesome event for half the price. Terms and conditions can be found below.

Obviously it means 'springing out of the bunch' on a critical sector. Or maybe it's referring to the time of year.
