I'm in again, good stuff. 6 months of dreading the 4am start, yay!
The ride is ace though. Can't wait.
I got in, and I had not even applied! Got a shock when the magazine arrived. Did not even know there had been an application process. I had applied last year though and not got in, so it seems they rolled over my application. So those who did not get in this year have a better chance next year.
i wonder if i will have double luck next year then, failed in ballot twice now
Great another effing failure magazine to go with the bloody one they sent me when unsuccessful for last years London marathon -talk about rubbing it in!
Personally it I dont get into an event to which I have applied I have not wish to read a glossy magazine spouting on a bout It. Plus the additional expense of these tens of thousands of publications are a waste.
Well magazine arrived today and no place for me. Good luck all
You needed Id to pick up your number etc the days before but loading into the start waves on the day was pretty anarchic. Plenty of people turning up at the wrong time or location to ride with their mates. The sheer number of people meant they couldn't police it.
How legit is this method of checking you got in or not? Has anyone who's 'approved' also got the magazine? I don't want to get my hopes up!
Totally Legit.

Marvelous work. Too legit to quit!
How strict were they on ID at registration last year?
If I have indeed got a place I wont be using it as it clashes with my wedding anniversary.
From what was said above I believe you can nominate someone else to pick up your rider pack anyway, and thats only when they check IDs.
Mine says Cancelled!!!
Payed upfront, will now have to pay again if take a charity place.
Does anyone know who paid upfront last year that didnt get in when you get the top you get should you not be succesful?
mine came a few weeks later
@Andycoventry, no, looked into this last year and paces are not exchangeable.
Yes, it's possible to ride as someone else, the only point you're checked for id is when registering in person to get your race number at excel or wherever -so to get around this the entrant would sign the form to nominate someone to collect the race number and pack on their behalf.
I guess the only problem with doing that is in the event of an accident and they need to identify you.
All is not lost - I forgot I applied also in my girlfriends name and unsurprisingly she is the only one with the approved status. Does anyone know if you are allowed to change the details of the winning entry to someone else at the same address? Or is it forfeited if they don't want to ride.
If all else fails I will ride as her, know a couple of people that did this last year.
Mobile it the way to go. 'Approved'! so I get to do it a second time (sorry dudes and dudesses who missed out) and improve my time. Making plans for the summer...
Thanks for the info today, not knowing until the mag turned up or getting an email would have been best but knowing that the ballot had been called and not knowing was a killer.
The charity bit doesn't sit well with me any more, I used to do this, but fund raising to allow you to pursue something you enjoy just doesn't seem right.
Neither does basically making an entry 700 quid for guys with deep pockets.
Fair play for those new to cycling/ old/ young/ not fit who do this for charity as a real challenge / hardship for them, all the best to you.
I agree to a certain degree but Ride London is slightly different for those of us not from London or the SE. I see it more of a one off.
For me it was pretty clear that a small local charity, a hospice in this case with 8 "gold bonds", was a great cause and would be easy to raise a large sum for (raised lots of small ones for them in the past) simply because the cause, tied in with finishing outside Buck House, would tick the boxes.
So when I started fund raising, the combination of 100 miles (never ridden that far), local hospice and the allure of London was a winner. Hopefully I'll raise well north of £1000 for them and ride my first imperial century at the same time.
Henning Wehn put this exact thing in Room 101 this week:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03t8vbm/Room_101_Series_3_Episode_2/
I took the chance and nabbed a (local) charity place. Needed to raise £750 which I did in just over two weeks so don't let the fundraising put you off, it's much easier than you think.
Commiserations to those that miss out. I know the targets can be steep (they certainly are for the marathon) and not everyone is in a position to fundraise to avoid taking the hit personally but, if you are, there are quite a lot of charities that have picked up the event now so that might be worth checking out. There'll be a rush on registrations with them now the ballot results are out so you may need to move quickly. Alternatively, for non-London based cyclists who would have to have booked accommodation anyway, Sports Tours International has been doing money off it's entry plus hotel options for a little while (don't know if it's still going, though).
Neither option will be viable for a lot of people, but I thought it was worth mentioning...just in case...
im out ... again
Worked on the iPad just now, I'm out......
Mine says approved after I got in on my phone. It's a bit of a strange way to announce things, so I'm not counting my chickens yet though.
Yep - mobile phone only. I'm down as 'cancelled'...
Mine is down as approved.
Apparently the link only works via mobile phones
I'm in.
Mrs Velo Peo is in.
It's the day after my brother's wedding - so we're both out. Arse.
It does - But I dont have a place......
I can confirm this is correct - I was able to log into my account and check via Chrome on Android but not Chrome running on a Mac.
I'm showing up as "approved", but I'll wait for the magazine in the post before I get too excited.
Yeah I had the same viewing it through android chrome, but like you say I am going to wait for the confirmation in the post!
I have posted a screenshot of the "approved" status here:
