1. Modolo
2. Rui Costa
3. Petacchi
Kwia is in there, think I'm going to have to manage without Coppel as he's not in there are the minute but I think I might regret that. I've got two sprinters in my purist team although one of those risks getting the chop for Coppel.
Still struggling with my team, there are 6 riders I really want in my purist team but I can only afford 5, need to decide who gets dropped
I had to make do without Kwia in order to get the others I wanted in purist. No top sprinters either...
Chrisdstripes is spot on, Horner has a great "form" rating because he won his last race, the Vuelta, and scored a ton of points.
Values are no longer set be people, its all automated now which takes all subjectivity out of it. Riders are priced as they are purely on form and their scores on these types of stages.
Cav..for stage 1 yes
There's no committee that decides the points, its done on previous results. So if Kwiatkowski is expensive, its because he's scored very high in previous races with this kind of profile, which he has. Deciding whether or not to pick these guys is arguably the key to doing well in this game. Like drh says - who is targeting this race, and who is just getting miles in the legs? Horner obviously pricey as the only races he's ridden in the last 12 months in the fantasy game are Tirreno (when he was going great before his injury) and the Vuelta (he did OK).
Anyone going Cav?
Horner does seem pricey. By the way, Lampre seem to have a hell of a squad here for this race. But will Rui Costa be after a home tour win in the rainbow jersey? Or is it a procession for him?
I don't know.
Never mind Kwia being 40 points, Chris Horner is 39+ as well. I know he won the Vuelta which makes all the difference when you work out his rating but its still a lot of lolly for him.
Is Kwiatkowski really a 40 point rider??
Is Kwiatkowski really a 40 point rider??
Yes, he can sprint well from a reduced bunch, climb with the GC guys and time trial well. He might not be the best pick for all stages but he is one of the maim favourites for the race because of his mix of skills.
Obviously 40 points is expensive for someone unproven and without a really big win but some good GC results show he can compete at the top level.
Just to confuse matters more, nobody knows what races the big guns are targeting so Kwiatowski may be here to get miles in his legs before the Ardennes rather than race hard. Likewise Contador may be gunning for the win or starting out slowly. That's the really difficult thing about picking for these early races, you need to pick on form and not on name.
I haven't got a clue for both my teams. Complete guess work here
Yep I'm with you here
Oooh.....that'll put the cat amongst the pigeons on Kwia
Aye, not so great value without those points but its all there in the scoring info so no excuses later!
There are lots of decent choices but where I'm really struggling is the bottom end, no obvious picks under 5 credits.
Just done a sweep up of roster changes, couple of Europcar, couple to the Portuguese teams so best to check you've not lost someone (emails have gone out).
One thing to note that you may not have noticed unless you bothered to read the 'scoring information' but there's no young rider jersey in this race.
I'd agree with the reading of the stages....now to research my Pork N Cheese 3 pointers!!
*poke* *poke* *poke* *ouch!*
That's the sound of me stabbing wildly in the dark as I select my team for this comp. Clueless.
Here's my stage notes...
1 - Flat-ish
2 - Hilly
3 - TT
4 - Summit
5 - Sprint?
So yeah - what am I supposed to do with that? #puristnightmare
I'd agree with that, I see:
1 - Flat-ish, climb is early so lots of time for it to come back together.
2 - Hilly, climbs late in the stage so expect pure sprinters to get dropped, a stage for strong men and puncheurs
3 - TT, short and flat, nothing complicated, not long enough for a pure TTer to make a play for the race win
4 - SF, couple of climbs but the final climb is only cat 2, not sure what kind of riders will be at the end (whether there will be a big selection or not).
5 - Flat-ish, probably sprint finish.
I'd say you want punchy sprinters/climbers for your purist team with a big 'GC' star there to secure you some decent points on stages 3/4.
How do you mean? Neither is in the current start list.
Rosters have been fairly sparse up until now, a full update will be done around lunch time with a sweep up this evening/tomorrow morning of any last minute changes.
Woohoo - open - I didn't want to get ready for work this morning anyway,
PS - Movistar - Sanz and Ventoso have been named for Haut-Var per procycling stats. Is this going to change?
- At 7.47
At 7:54
Now that is speedy service
I was making the roster changes anyway after being asked to have a scoot through them.
I hadn't seen your post at that point. Sorry, it wasn't a response to your post
The race itself is set up (although roster info was sparse when I last checked) but I think a couple of last minute things are being done (such as sorting out prizes) before Dave opens it up, shouldn't be long.
Fingers crossed
