A few people have commented on how they miss having to pick a proper purist team for the classics now that we've moved over to fully unlimited transfers between each race (which simplifies things a huge amount and hopefully will cause much less confusion than in previous years).
In light of this I'm setting up a 'proper purist' forum comp for the spring classics between the opening Omloop/KBK weekend and Paris-Roubaix (I'll set up a separate one for the Ardennes later).
The Rules - pick nine riders for 150 credits or less based on opening values this weekend. Usual rules apply so no more than two riders per team (no picking all of OPQS then).
The Points - Normal fantasy points will be scored by any and all active riders in each race included in the road.cc game, that's:
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad - Sat Mar 01 2014
Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne - Sun Mar 02 2014
Strade Bianche - Sat Mar 08 2014
Roma Maxima - Sun Mar 09 2014
Milan - San Remo - Sun Mar 23 2014
E3 Harelbeke - Fri Mar 28 2014
Gent - Wevelgem - Sun Mar 30 2014
Ronde Van Vlaanderen - Sun Apr 06 2014
Paris - Roubaix - Sun Apr 13 2014
This means that points will directly corralate with the main game. If your rider doesn't start a race then you get no points. There are no transfers, no swaps, no substitutions and no injury replacements. Your nine riders are your nine riders and that's it.
The Prize - Eternal Glory (ie nothing).
Entries required on/before 9am Saturday 1st March 2014. Please try and keep your entries into one post with any amendments in that post (so no quoting other peoples team please).
EDIT: I've just remembered that I'm out of the country the day that Paris-Roubaix runs so I'll also need a volunteer to put together the final scores, I'll sort everything out up to that point so someone will just need to come in and take all the glory.
Likewise, if someone wants to volunteer to carry the comp over into the Ardennes classics but with new teams picked (but points carried over) then that'd be great too.

Looks like a rather uninspiring 80pts over the 2 races for me
Now that we're under way I'll share my spreadsheet.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8lrga3lw43flcxt/Purist%20Classics.xlsx
You're free to have a play with it if you like, basically cobbles and Ardennes teams are stored for each person then you dump the scores into the tab for each race. The main page then collates the score for each stage and totals. The rankings page is just there to allow easy sorting by score.
I'm pretty sure I have cover lined up for Paris Roubaix and the Ardennes classic but you're free to use and abuse the spreadsheet as you like. With a little tweaking it should be easy enough to alter this for non-game competitions so you can do your own scores adding in extra columns for stage result, GC standings etc.
Feel free to post questions if you have any.
Nah, nothings updated manually, its all long winded formulae.
The teams are stored in the "cobbles" and "Ardennes" tabs then referenced in some hidden columns in the scores tab. Its quick and dirty and I'm sure there are better ways of doing it but its all automated so the only thing I do is copy and paste the scores out of the game (on the stage page like this http://fantasy.road.cc/stages?sid=7501) and into the relevant race tabs.
Because the points aren't shown with the rider id everything is referenced off rider name so the scores page offset matches against rider name when searching the stage results.
If you think you can improve it though feel free, like I said its just something quick I knocked together at work (while on lunch obviously... )
If it works and it's not manually intensive then it's fine , only thing to watch out for is formulas going awry ( doesn't happen often but we have seen some very random happenings in work with xlsx files )
This is just a record of the teams submitted:

This is a beautiful competition. Nice, dr!
Hope that makes up for the last week!
On another note, out of curiosity I tried to see what would be the best team to have had until this point in the competition, after three races, and I think this is the best team you could have had so far:
31.5 Michal Kwiatkowski
22.8 Greg Van Avermaet
18.4 Tom Boonen
15.5 Ian Stannard
15.3 Moreno Hofland
12.1 Stijn Vandenbergh
11.8 Sep Vanmarcke
7.5 Salvatore Puccio
3.0 Yves Lampaert
but that team only considers Finish Line Points. I'm sure it can probably be improved by looking for some 3.0 riders who went on breaks or some other 3.0 riders who were Lanterne Rouges, but I'm too lazy to keep track of those. Though I bet a list like that would probably come in handy for future races!
Very nice of you
Only had a look on my mobile but how is the scoring managed for each rider and then team? Are you doing it manually as I can't see any formulas and as it's an xlsx file I know it doesn't contain any vba macro .
Just curious because if it's manual I'm pretty sure I can knock something up for you based on the original if you want that just means you need to add the raw data from the site if that is excel based ?
