What we also now need to do Simon is to check that the rider is actually racing every time we make a transfer.
I put Guardini into my team last night, a few hours after the first stage had been scored.
This evening I find him blanked out, so I searched for a DNF.
It's true he didn't finish the stage today. Nor did he start or finish the stage yesterday as he wasn't racing.
The upshot is that I have been told that it is my responsibility to ensure that the riders are racing. So from now on I need to check that every transfer I make, even after the first stage has been ridden and scored, that the rider is actually not just on the road.cc roster but also on the official startlist roster.
That's good news isn't it?
And again, the same issue. Only one TdS stage starts before 11am UK time (apologies to non-UK players) yet they're all at 9am deadlines. I'm sure it's convenient for some, but not for everyone - can we not just have a consistent rule for all races whether it be one hour before race start, same time as race start (as it used to be) or whatever, instead of whatever seems to suit the race volunteer for any given race.
Also, I liked having GMT to avoid those not being sure twice a year days when the clock changes but either your computer or the server doesn't at least not at the same time)
The time and date dealings are still shown on the stages page for the comp, go to the Giro for example and click on stages and you get a list of stages with deadline dates and times.
And the countdown is on the pick team page. I was aware of both of those and I like Dave's compromise of showing both on the home page - at least I will when 30 hours is 9 hours after 21 hours instead of 3 before
Is that showing off, or reasonable compromise? Whichever, Cheers (although it looks like it still relies on us setting the correct timezone). And the ToC times seem to be 12 hours out?

Sorry,
But I honestly don't see what the problem with a countdown is - is it really that hard to understand how far away is 2 days, 12 hours, 20 minutes? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems pretty straightforward to me, and much simpler than adding/subtracting from GMT.
It's not so much that it's a problem - there will be a mental arithmetic issue whichever way it's done for those in further flung timezones. It's more that we already have the countdown on one page, local time on another but GMT is the only one which is a defined absolute (not relative) time and doesn't rely on your computer's clock and timezone being set correctly. We had this info and now we don't. If there are 3 ways to show the deadline, I don't see why we have to lose one of them. I guess that's all I'm trying to say.
Has there ever been a race where a race start has been moved up? I work all night and I would appreciate it if stage deadlines were coordinated to coincide with the race start to give me to the last minute to sneek in my transfers. I can't see why not
If it says 22 hours and 5 mins until the next deadline, it tends to mean that you have 22 hours and 5 minutes to pick your transfers.
I know it's tricky, but if anyone is having any problems then I can always ask my 6 year old to help you out.
What an ass... Do you have to resort to such stupidity?
And if the page showed a date and time, I expect your 6 year old would know when to make transfers by pretty quickly but I suspect he/she would take longer to decide if he/she should get up early or stay up late to make transfers in 1d 17h 34m
I know Road CC is a UK based site, but its reach is worldwide. Many fantasy players (such as myself) are not from the UK and don't operate on GMT, so the countdown clock is much appreciated by us. Please keep it as is - we have enough to deal with staying up to 1.30am on work nights to watch the stages!
Even the UK is not operating on GMT at the moment. All time zones are based on hours +/- GMT (or more accurately UTC) so you've just got the same problem as us in remembering to add/subtract some hours from the GMT time. It's still less hassle than working out what time is xd yh zm from now.
The countdown time is available on the pick team page and your/our local time is available on the race stage list so the home page was the only place where a fixed (not susceptible to daylight savings or timezone issues) time was visible and now it's not. It just seems like change for change's sake.
Dave,
Is there any chance of having the GMT date/time back for deadlines on the home page. It's nothing like as immediately obvious (using the image above as an example) that the stages 4 days away are actually different days, nor are the times as obvious without counting hours in one's head (at least for me).
Yea i agree, defo find it easier to see that deadline is at 9am 2moro rather than have to work out what the time is plus 17hrs and 50 mins is.
Thanks Simon, for answering for me. I was out, and not by a computer.
To Gkam84 (who I think does a great job on here), I wrote "Time remaining was on the page to update your team, which made sense". Surely that means the same as what you wrote for the "Pick team" part.
It's the definition of time remaining for, for example, Stage 6 of the Giro in 6d14h59m that wasn't (and still isn't) necessary.
By having the dates on the list, it's immediately apparent if there is a rest day or not.
Perhaps I'm being picky, but obviously I'm going to back my preferences for the presentation.
Despite all that, keep up the good work (I will now return to my position in the silent majority !)
What are you talking about?
When I click "pick team" for Giro, is says the deadline is in 22 hours and 45 minutes, how hard is that to understand?
Nobody claimed any different. The home page however, which used to show deadlines in GMT now has the same as the "pick team" page, which I don't think is as useful as showing the actual time.

Why oh why have the deadline date and times of upcoming events been changed on the Home Page to show the number of days, hours, and minutes remaining ?
Before it showed the date, and the time GMT. Time remaining was on the page to update your team, which made sense.
If someone is so stupid they cannot understand GMT they would never be able to navigate their way around the site anyway !
PLEASE change it back to how it was. That was clear and obvious. The system now is not.
There's a limit to helping those with double-figure IQs.
Can I suggest a cut off time of 9.00.9135
Same time before every stage is perfect for dunces like me who can't figure out how long they've got. 9am every day suits me fine.
One hour before the start seems generous enough and the chances of a rider dropping out after the 1 hour prior to the start is quite slim so i dont think its going to hurt to many people to be honest.
realistically the only time people complain is when the stage deadline is *really* early. or, more problematically, too late
i've set them to one hour before stage start. that's what we normally do for the grand tours. i'll double check them too before the off...
The above was basically my next comment but Dave beat me to it.
Personally, I'd like to see them even closer to the start and the same rule applied to all races, but we can't always have everything we want. At least this is consistent - Cheers Dave
Then we would just get people complaining about missing the deadline because it wasn't at a decent time.
So it is a no win situation.
Surely an exception can be made for the Grand Tours?
They are all set to 9am. This is so that people do not have to keep checking every stage, they know the deadline.
Otherwise you get deadlines all over the shop
