You can do all the thought experiments or boast all you want.
Facts and mathematics (statistics) says that ....
The more trades you have, the more strategy and good planning is rewarded, and the less luck is a factor.
Conversely, the less trades you have, the less strategy is rewarded, and the more luck is a factor.
Psychology (in attribution theory) says that given the same events and outcomes ...
People attribute good outcomes for themselves as due to their own skill or planning or hard work,
People attribute good outcomes for others as due to others' good luck.
People attribute bad outcomes for themselves as due to bad luck and unforeseeable events.
People attribute bad outcomes for others as due to others' stupidity or laziness, or lack of skill and planning.

I'll be honest you are both just starting to regurgitate your previous posts .
For a real world scenario on the spring classics of a purist game go look at last year's forum fun only purist spring classics thread , rosters had to be submitted prior to the start with one team overhaul between classic types everyone had to research yes luck would have been a factor but research was important if you wanted a good points haul (barring rider crashes etc)
No transfers still fun and still most ppl scored most races and it made it a tighter comp.
Now I'm not sure how they are going to be setup this year but I'd suggest with both of you just going over old ground then Dave et al have probably stopped even looking at this thread and have made their decision
Heres something to put to bed your need for an extra transfer, to change around your 3 credit riders.
The bigger the race the less likely a rider 5 credits or below will score any predictable points (just top 20 finish and gc points, not counting breakaways as they are unpredictable).
In oman i make it 2 riders under 5 scored points that u could predict, ventoso coming 12th and konrad for gc/yr the last 2 stages.
Well in the classics u dont have gc points, and the riders from those smaller teams that are likely to score points are likely to be higher than 5 credits as have form from last year (marcato at wanty now, could say he showed spells as top 20 rider for cannondale in the classics and thus i reckon maybe around the 8-12 credit mark, hardly just a small time swap.
Certainly cant see there being a rider of a small value where u could say he should top 10 and get a decent hall of points.
Finally i agree with chivs point above, ive already loaded into the game the 13 races which will happen and dave already has a ballpark figure for transfers, so not much will change now, as i expect it to be open by wednesday
I'm all for more transfers!
Still not convinced about this years limited transfer count and lack of prizes, which was a great incentive last year.
The limited transfers stops people stage hunting more, but the incentive to stage hunt has gone with no more daily prizes up for grabs.
No surprises in the races enrique
i dont know the values, left that to dave as he needs to some extra bits yet
I know about bole but that is in a 2.1 race not a world tour race which was sort of the point i was making
Instead of farting around trying to get the team right for every single classic and moaning about transfers, just choose one classic, pick the perfect team for that race and win.
You have no idea how much research i do and its not about swapping in "big boys" as you seem to keep mentioning its about getting a balanced team who can get points consistently without having to make wholesale changes because you haven't been arsed to do the work or simply because you have a load of transfers.
If that means swapping a "big boy" around so be it but it also includes swapping in and out lesser riders who have done well on similar courses and weather conditions previously.
As you point out GvA rode nearly all the races last year and is valued at 21.7 at the mo and Edvald Boasson Hagen is only 13 points so you can get very good riders without picking the "big boys".
Yep both those races, unless Dave decides otherwise between now and opening.
Not that I plan on looking, it wont make too much difference, as unless I look before sunday i wont have time to plan until next friday by which time you will all know whats happening anyway
Ow - Enrique's filibustering is hurting my head in this thread - not all statistics give additional information mate.
I wrote a post about a week ago regarding a standard comp involving all races (with fantastic prize) whilst splitting ardennes and Belgian cobbles to two separate purist comps. Was this noted by the powers that be and either decided for or against? TERatcliffe - did you see this?
Guys, guys you are taking this far too seriously with this all this concentration on points. Get back in touch with the spirit of the game and pick a dream team of riders you like. If they score, great.
It's about enjoying the ride not the bike.
chiv30, yorkshire whippet - thank you, you are both right after all its a game and should be enjoyed as such.
Nix, by the way you are wrong again, i enjoy the normal game much more than the purist, but i'll still try my best at both.
Shall we just leave this thread now. What will be will be, and it will still be great fun whether it's 1 transfer per stage or 8.
I realise it's a bit late but could I propose a Bonus Purist competition with unlimited transfers for people who genuinely can't be bothered to play the standard game? Obviously it wouldn't be purist as such so wouldn't have to count towards the purist scores. I think a few of us more casual players would like to play a simplified version of the game
Dave, TER, can we get values for the following riders in the case that teams will be loaded by start lists of upcoming races?...
Cobbled Classics
Peter Sagan
Fabian Cancellara
Geraint Thomas
Theo Bos
Tony Gallopin
Stijn Devolder
John Degenkolb
Michael Matthews
Marcel Kittel
Sam Bennett
Moreno Hofland
Sebastian Langeveld
Zico Waeytens
Alexey Tsatevich
Zico Waeytens
Alexey Tsatevich
Ardennes
Alejandro Valverde
Simon Gerrans
Bauke Mollema
Michal Kwiatkowski
Daniel Martin
Daniel Moreno
Jelle Vanendert
Simon Geschke
Tom Jelte Slagter
Roman Kreuziger
Davide Malacarne
Stefan Denifl
Damiano Cunego
Fabio Felline
Georg Preidler
Especially because guys like Sagan and Cancellara, and even Valverde, will probably come in later, maybe Strade Bianche, and I'd like to know how much room I would need to bring them in under budget. Thanks!
Cavendish is in... Bouhanni... I guess the races are being filled up in the order they occur?...
If there are limited trades across the Classics then every rider (for all race startlists) with their prices has to be listed from before the first race. Anything else limits options for long term planning.
Enrique ..
I tried to send you an email. Is the email address you have listed with this forum current?
Casual doesn't mean not premium. I have paid my tenner so I can do all the races but I only play purist. Casual means that I love to play but haven't got the time nor inclination to do the neccessary research and planning to do well at the standard game. As I stated I know transfers isn't purist which is why I suggested it be a Bonus competition. I'm suggesting a Bonus Purist as a more relaxed competition so I can still enjoy playing the Classics but without the hassle of the standard game. Let the serious players enjoy their standard competition and have a just for fun bonus competition like there has been for some other races already this season. It doesn't have to be called bonus purist if that's a problem as it wouldn't count towards any season scores anyway
I think the answer is dave has decided the setup of the comp and wont be changing or adding anything at this stage so close to the comp
That's fine. I love playing the game. Just a suggestion for next year perhaps
Im not sure what Dave's plan is on this
and im going to play it fair and im not going to look
but if this helps I imagine Sagan, Valverde and Kwiatkowski will all be above 35 credits, id say if not all they will be closer to 40 than 35.
I should think Cancellara and Degenkolb will be somewhere between 30 and 35.
Thomas, Matthews, Gerrans and Martin close to the 30 mark, maybe Thomas and Matthews a tad lower around 26.
Mollema no higher than 25 and maybe as low as 20, Kreuziger pushing 25.
Kittel likely to be the lowest of that lot with 11 of 13 being MM stages, so he may be just above 20
(don't quote me on those, just hazarding a guess, if any of those above are much less than ive imagined then its a good bonus)
There is a little box which you tick which allows this.
did you not get the memo, enrique? everyone was mailed out today. 'all rider' option now on transfers page for the classics
I can't find Manuel Belletti (Southeast) or Giovanni Bernaudeau (Team Europcar) in the game
I can't find Antoine Demoitie (Wallonie - Bruxelles) in the game either...
I agree that for Purist teams that is true... But for standard, that's where I think being able to pick the right 'filler' or 'breakaway artist' makes a huge difference... Anybody can pick the favorites, I just think it would more fun to rotate more riders in and out other than the favorites, and with 3 or so transfers I think most of us will end up just swapping 'Big Boys' in and out. I mean, you have to, because those are the guys who will get you 50, 45 points, so there is a lot of planning involved but very little chance to switch out the lesser value riders if you're only counting on transferrin out 3 or so riders per race, which is what I think happens when either the budget is too tight or the transers are set too low...
Just one question on those numbers what's the split of premium vs no premium on the purist side ?
My thinking is that the majority of players playing fun purist are likely to be premium players purely because we as premium members can play every competition given to us and non premium players would rather play the std big race competitions
Yet I have just provided numbers from this year that show this is clearly a wrong assumption.
If you had only 8 races and you genuinely believed purist was more fun and was better because it rewarded planning and stopped all the teams being the same you would only play 8 purist games. Clearly the majority of players don't think that way.
It's all for fun, really... One extra transfer a race makes me do less planning at the beginning, rely less on luck and enjoy bringing in more (!) than just (!) the 'Big Boys' every race... I think it'd be neat to be able to swap out the a little of rest of the team, and not just the 'Big Boys' honestly, just to enjoy the action alittle more... I mean, there are 38 different teams just in the first 3 days of the competition! Wouldn't it be nice to bring in a rider or two from Team Novo Nordisk, Bardiani, RusVelo, Veranclassic, CCT, An Post, TeamM
or Wallonie - Bruxelles? Except for Bardiani and Novo Nordisk, you won't see those teams again in the competitition! Of course, that's good enough reason not to have any people from those teams on your team... But it's all in fun...
I guess what I'm saying is that's it's fine and dandy and kudos to you for doing your research... but in the end you swapped 'Big Boys' for 'Big Boys'... Valverde, Majka and Moreno for Kristoff, Guardini and Rojas... good job... it worked!... but I don't think it's necessarily relevant to the point I'm trying to make...
.
I'm ok with 2 transfers a day on average for weeklong races with 198 or less riders in them, but with the Classics, I just think they deserve more than 3 transfers... so you can go a little deeper than just 'Big Boy' swaps... You have to (!) swap out big boys if you want to win... If you just swap fillers or mid level riders, you'll miss out on the big points... but, one more transfer, and you can swap one of those fillers and mid level riders, too...
.
For me it's like saying you'll play with the roster of the 3 Grand Tours, say, about 594 riders, close, but below the 691 from last year, but we'll cram the race into 12 days and we'll also change the roster and up to half the teams every day... and we'll space the stages or races unevenly... why not give the teams a little more flexibility and let the amount of transfers reflect the nature of the composition of these races?...
It's more about flexibility due to the composition of this competition rather than 'I just want more transfers'... for a GT or a weeklong race, an average of 2 transfers a day is ok... it's fun (!), it's exciting, but I think this competition deserves more flexibility than the normal ones...
That's great! Thanks!... Any surprises in the races?...
