Some figures for you to ponder.
611 Signatories to HM Gov. e-petition Make drivers stop if they hit a cat.
2111 Signatories to HM Gov. e-petition Make causing the death of an unborn by careless or dangerous driving an offence.
450 000 and rising. Reinstate Clarkson petition.
and finally
HM Gov. e-petition Permanent revocation of licence for drivers who cause death by careless or dangerous driving ... wait for it ... 149.
Figures correct as of 11/03/2015. I make no comment what-so-ever!
Thats not what I said at all.
My 'badly handled by the bbc' comment was more about the way information is slowly being dripped out.
They should have conducted an investigation behind closed doors - then if this results in a suspension - you announce it, including what they have done and how long the suspension lasts.
The BBC have suspended both parties whilst an investigation takes place. This is an internal disciplinary process so why would the BBC release updates on it, they seem to me to be in the right on this one, thats not to say people have it in for him but this speaks more about the people stomping their political feet than it does about the BBC.
Well, you suggested the motivation for taking action was that the Beeb felt it needed to be seen to be doing something after an alleged assault, whereas I'd have assumed it would be a given that action would be taken, appearances or not.
Anyway, on second reading I read too much into that so apologies.
Top gear isn't going anywhere, BBC own it. the presenters well they can go but would all three decamp. They wouldn't be able to take any IP as that would belong to the BBC as well.
So would it even work? could they replace Clarkson??? worked for have I got news when they fired Angus.
If any of us punched someone at work, would we feel that the company 'had it in for' us when we got suspended?
I don't much care what happens to JC or Top Gear. I don't watch the programme anyway, as I find the scripted ad libbing (!) tiresome and the presenters seem to have run out of original ideas.
On the other hand, any program that replaces it will probably be cack too.
If any of us tried to stick one on a boss or an employee at work do you think we'd still keep our jobs? Especially if on a third warning?
I for one would love to see Top Gear on Sky, having to shoehorn in regular pieces about how great Team Sky cycling team are
I doubt there will be any more top gear. Contract negotiations were underway as their contracts expire next month. Clarkson et al will be lured to another mega paying network. Remember Sachgate incident, with Ross leaving saying there was a change in attitude at the BBC.
BBC have lost a multimillion pound programme and millions of viewers.
It does seem to be handled badly by the BBC - but at the moment Clarkson has been 'Suspended' by the beeb... which is not the same thing as 'fired'
I would hazard a guess that if there has been a physical assault involved, and BBC felt that had to be seen to be taking action, least another 'Saville' style row kicks off.
Fingers crossed that the suspension will last a week or two, and then everyone can get back to work. (and Clarkson can get back to doing what he does best - making piles of cash for the BBC)
You don't think there absolutely should be action taken if he's assaulted someone? Or would that be political correctness gone mad?
Whilst I would travel quite a long way to avoid being in Mr Clarkson's company, I do think the BBC have it in for him at the moment. Staffed largely by time-serving creeps, the organisation makes a habit of shooting itself in the foot and this is just the latest in a long line of over-reactions.
