OK for London, why not the rest of us ?

this is a positive step forward

BBC News (UK) @BBCNews

VIDEO: London bans 'unsafe lorries' bbc.in/1PIgN2y

But I ask the question if OK to ban in London and in effect make illegal why not the rest of the country ? Why is it that as soon as you step outside the precious M25 these Lorries are then deemed 'safe'.

Surely if London can ban them then the ban should actually be made across the UK. After doing many miles recently on the M5 I have concluded the driving standards of lorry drivers are appalling. But as usual in this so called 'one nation' only London is deemed good enough to have measures imposed.

The problem is not so much london, its our week (or perhaps not caring) national government.

London had the clout, foresight and financial muscle to get this done - but lets not also forget the blood spilt on London's streets over the years which has lead up to this.

Hopefully once the policy has proved a success in London, then it can spread nationally.

You have to start somewhere. Improvements to cycle infrastructure and road safety have the biggest impact where there are the most users, or most potential users. That's London at the moment. Hopefully these rules will be extended to cover everywhere soon.

yes all true and I would love to know how London can afford to police these rules when police officers being cut left right and centre, not London then ....

No wonder Scotland voted SNP eh ? because frankly who wants to be in the same country as bloody London.

I have a mate who has lived in the Netherlands for the last 8 years and he only speaks about 4 words of Dutch. He's purchased a house and everything, goes out with an Australian bird who speaks even less of the language than him.

If I was you and I genuinely wanted to move I'd just do it, honestly, you can learn the language while you're there.

Ian, It is very strange that Chris Froome and team Sky have been so quiet on this issue. I think that means that they have some very important questions to answer; their silence is very telling.

Having read your other posts I suggest the consistent thread is not the UK but you. Make sure to migrate legally.

London is where the £££ is therefore it's the only part of the country that those who make decisions care about. It also helps most of those decision makers live in or around London too.

Just look at what happened when the south west got flooded. No help whatsoever but then London had a little bit of rain, the Thames flooded and an MP had to put on a pair of wellies. To justify the huge sums they spent on helping London they had to acknowledge thousands of homes and families had been suffering far worse for 2 months previous.

There's not a lot we can do about it unfortunately. Just look at the lengths London is going to make cycling safer and more inviting but the same isn't being done anywhere else. The only hope is it works there and trickles down to us country folk.
