I'd trust Lennard at Velonews.com much more than I'd trust an unknown employee of an online bike shop. Not that I have anything against Chain Reaction, I've used them in past and their service was good.
Most FAQs on store websites simply repeat the manufacture’s recommendations. Most manufacturers advise against mixing any 10 and 11 speed components, even when they work perfectly well together. I’ve mixed a 10 speed crankset with an 11 speed groupset, and vice versa, with no problem what-so-ever, despite Shimano claiming this isn’t possible. It’s BS.
Yep. It's nonsense with SRAM 10/11. Exact same derailleur pull for both mechs. As stated I've been running this setup for a year.
I posted this question to Chainreaction and they came back and said that its not compatible.
Yep.
It'll work fine.
I'm running an 11 speed rd with 10 speed shifters.
Thanks AKH.
The mech is a WiFli so in the not too distant future when my legs have become weak and puny it may find a role.

According to this SRAM didn't changed the pull ration when moving to 11 speed, so it should work fine.
The particular example in that FAQ ask about using 11 speed shifters with a 10 speed derailleur, but I don’t see how the opposite would be any different.
I'm not sure if it's worth the effort unless your derailleur is knackered though. The derailleur is really just a hinge. Providing it hasn't developed any play, it shouldn't affect performance much.
