100% with the lorry driver on this one.
Watching them waiting at the lights I thought "That truck driver has absolutely no idea that you're there" It was an idiot move by the cyclist to move to that spot and to start from that spot. My sphincter was clenched just watching it. The pair of the cyclists were idiots. The poor driver was shocked out of his wits. His livelihood is at risk from the actions of two idiots who should know a hell of a lot better. Worse than that, he's totally aware someone just about went under his wheels.
Left hand turn only lane "I've got it all on video" Well I f***kin hope so. You should be prosecuted.
"Everyone does it". What a freaking F***wit
Having said that, everyone's human and the guy in red had the fright of his freaking life and no surprise how he reacted either.
The cyclists were all in a left turn only lane, if they were not intending to turn left then they should have been in another lane.
If you are going to disobey the rules of the road then you are going to get hurt and it will be your fault.
::Puts on best David Attenborough voice::
This pack of species Cyclus Lemmini , better known as the common cycling lemming, are an intriguing example of how being part of a herd creates within them a sense of unfounded safety. Observe how, upon encountering the known predator Taxius Idiotus they pass close by, in spite of his indicating a move in their direction.
Further afield we encounter the main body of the herd as they congregate around the lumbering Elephantinae Articulatus, a common foe of all members of the the Cyclus family, not merely the lemmings. These slow, thunderous creatures are well known for poor peripheral vision, often trampling smaller creatures through inattention.
Here the pack are trying to fool the beast, they wait to his left giving the impression they will move away from the path of the creature when in reality they intend to race him to the narrow canyon entrance ahead. As the group moves off, the forerunners easily outpace their foe, the remainder of the herd, relying on the safety of the pack, rush on towards a seemingly certain doom.
:: Bye bye david ::
On a more serious note these guys were behaving like muppets. London's roads are dangerous enough without putting yourself in a situation where you're relying on another road user to move to make way for you. If this situation were reversed and the bikes were all in the middle lane and the truck tried to push in from the left we'd all (trolls aside) be saying how dangerous it was and how he shouldn't be allowed on the road.
As it is, the truck is in a predictable position, going in a predictable direction and does in fact move in said direction. How on earth that group thought they were all going to safely pass the truck in the amount of space available I don't know. The only one of them who seemed to have any sense was the girl over on the left who, realising she wasn't going to be able to pass, held back and waited til she could merge back in.
Notice how the truck holds back to allow the cyclists he can see to get out in front? Red guy is right in the truck's blindspot the entire time and seems to make no effort to find out what the truck is doing. Camera guy is just as bad, he's riding up the side of the trailer towards a space he can see getting narrower and narrower rather than hanging back. From the video the truck appears to veer left as it reaches the other side of the junction, but if you look at the road markings that's where he is being directed as there are cars on his right.
