Cervelo S3 vs R3 Which Is More MAMIL Friendly

Hello

Looking at two second hand Cervelos both roughly the sam price 2017 bikes both disc brakes but one is the S3 Aero and the other R3.  I am not into racing so will the R3 be too harsh a ride for a weekend MAMIL rider?

Thanks

If you can get 28mm tyres on the R3, which I believe you can, you will be fine on that as far as comfort goes.  I receall 25mm was the max for the S3. Both bikes have similar geo which is remarkably MAMIL friendly for a race bike.

Don't go for the S3 unless you're prepared to sacrifice comfort for speed, as I believe Meatloaf once said.

I'd have said the C3 is the model for the average cyclist on UK roads but you've found two second-hand models that I assume are cheaper for the spec you're looking for. I'm so happy with my Cervélo but the racy models were never for me.

I know you have chosen a bike you like and it’s really annoying when people keep giving you other offers but considering you aren’t racing why not go for something really comfortable like a giant defy? There is a brand new 2017 model on eBay at the moment and could be had for a bargain.

You state that you are not into racing, but are you into fast riding? If you explain what you will use the bike for, you'll get better advice.

Also, are you set on a Cervelo? I have an R5 which I love, but there are many other bike brands out there; some may produce something more suitable for your needs.

I'd say R3 would not be too harsh. S3 will definitely be - especially the rear end. Why not look at R2 - essentially R3 frame with slightly older fork? Just proposing, as it's a lot cheaper option.

He's not wrong,

I had a chance to test ride s3, harsh is understatment on london roads,  but that's areo frame for ya...

Go for r3 if your mind is set on cervelo, r2 doesn't come with disc brakes which i think will be beneficial in the long run
