Stuck hydraulic brake pad axle/pin in BR-RS805

I finally got around to replacing my disc pads (Shimano BR-RS805 hydraulics) and after changing the rear pads and confirming that they work for a week, I tried to do my front ones.

However, I could not get the retaining pad axle to unscrew at all. I squirted some WD40 on it (bad idea for brakes, I know) and left overnight and it is still completely seized. My flat-head screwdriver is just ripping the head apart rather than loosening it at all.

I've now ordered a replacement pad axle (hopefully the right one) and will wait for that to arrive before getting medieval on the original.

Anyone got any tips for drilling out the seized one?

@Drinfinity - drilling is my least preferred option, especially as I only have access to handheld drills and I tend to be a bit heavy-handed.

I have seen a MTB forum with the same issue and someone successfully used a chisel to get a better interface to the bolt, so I might try that if I can't unscrew it from the clip end with some mole grips.

I’ve not had much luck drilling out screws. Usually they are made of a harder material than the cast alloy they go into. Once you get past the bolt head, the drill drifts out of the shaft into the casting.

might be more successful if you have a drill stand.

Could you get needle nosed pliers around the central section of the pin and try undoing it that way?

The pad carrier blocks easy access to the middle of it, but I'm going to try needle nose pliers on the clip end of it before drilling.

For clarity I've found a picture of the pin
