Is there any plans in the future to add something more than a bare bones comment system here? I would quite like to say, block or ignore someone, but there's nothing here to allow me to do that.

if we changed the forum it would need to be to something compatible with Drupal - so most likely we'd look to see if there were any other Drupal forum modules, or add-ons/updates to what we've already got
No, but only because it's not something we've ever been asked for before. If enough people wanted the forum to do more then we'd certainly consider it. I'd have to say though there's already quite a long list of stuff we want to fix or change
