Lucky you were not on a horse or you would have contributors to this forum questioning wether it ever happened, implying that you were probably at fault anyway for being on a dangerous road and asking for video and witness evidence before believing your stories.
Woman thrown from unpredictable animal, blames cyclist, police quotes confirm horse bolting but don't mention cyclist, has quotes unquestioningly printed on horsey site that are then unquestioningly reproduced on a bike site, skepticism ensues, posters with horse bias respond hysterically at skeptics.
You're stretching for parallels between responses to that event and these, which are comments from posters on a bike forum, haven't unthinkingly been turned into an article (yet) and where video footage is mentioned.
This would be a parallel event:
Dave is thrown from his bike, which is then found waiting for him back at his house. Whether it dumps piles of bike shit along the way remains unconfirmed. Quotes from the police confirm this much (but don't mention bike shit). Dave blames a horse for spooking him/his bike and his pleas for better horse behaviour are unquestioningly reproduced on a bike site. They're then picked up by Henriettas on Horses, unquestioningly; some skeptical horsey types question the lack of questioning, and point out the lack of evidence (so then question how much a horse was to blame (and whether a horse was actually there)), and some bikey types start falling over themselves to shout the skeptics down, demonstrating their white knight credentials by making irrelevant points about cyclists' rights to be on the road.
As if by magic, got this on Friday:
Dear Mr Beeching
Incident: 9/5/2018 at 7:56 hours – Maidstone Buildings Mews, SE1
We refer to the above incident which you reported.
We would advise you that after careful consideration and having reviewed the evidence available to us we do not feel there is a realistic prospect of conviction should this matter proceed to court and have therefore decided to take no further action in respect of this matter.
We understand that this decision may be disappointing, however we thank you for bringing it to our attention. We do investigate all alleged offences and would encourage you to report any further incidents to us which you personally witness.
Seeing as the driver could not have been any closer to the poor rider behind me without knocking her off, this is a pretty clear example of the Met not giving a fuck. Why can't even a warning, or 3 points and a fine be issued?
Details sent. I have front and rear camera footage. Thanks for the link.
Got the same from the Met last week. Taxi driver took skin off my elbow, took 100% of my mad skills and a big dollop of luck to not end up under his wheels, properly frightening.
I'm no longer cycling across London to work.
Good shout.
