Cable to hydraulic disc brakes.

Is it possible to retrofit a hydraulic system to replace a cable disc brake set up?

The bike is a 2016 Cannondale Synapse 105 Disc so I just want to have a look at the possibility.

I am in Stroud so there are loads of hills and coming down can be a bit nerve racking without being able to stop well!

Have two bikes built around the same frame; one has TRP Sprye (cable operated disc) and the other TRP Hy-Rd (cable operated hydraulic disc) - so a reasonable good basis for comparison.

And yes, the Hy-Rd are significantly better. The Sprye stop me, the Hy-Rd stop me just using single finger braking and I speak as a 90kilo fat lad. So definitely an option that saves on not having to ditc your existing levers.

Thanks everybody. This is very useful. Of course the other solution is to save up and gay a bike with Shimano Di2 and hydraulic brakes. Might be a while.

I'd recommend replacing the shifters and brakes with hydraulic levers and callipers - they really do work very well!

It costs a fair price, but if you ride all year round and like stopping it's worth it!

Stroud is lovely, as you say, lots of little but VERY steep hills.

Yep.

TRP HY-RD or Juin Tech do cable-operated hydraulic calipers. Not as good as full hydros but an improvement.

Giant do a conversion kit that's very reasonably priced - something like £125 including calipers and the stem.

If you don't mind replacing your stem, and your frame has the right sort of cable guides to take the thicker hydro lines I think the Giant system is a neater install and potentially will work better due to shorter mechanical cable runs.

I've got the Juin Tech on my tourer, a noticeable improvement over the Tektros I had on there before.

Your only other option is to replace your shifters with hydros but that's probably a £400 job all in unless you fit it yourself.
