Thinking of buying a Canyon

Hi All,

Am thinking about buying a Canyon Endurance CF7.0, but need a little help/advice about the sizing/geometry.

I currently own a Btwin Triban 520 in a size small, the TT is 535, and stack and reach are 549 and 378.

When looking at the Canyon, it recommends a size XS the TT is 526 and stack and reach are 541 and 366.

Will the Canyon feel alot smaller than I am used to with the Triban. I'm 5ft 6 if that helps?

Anyone one here have a Canyon Eundurance and if so how did you get on with the sizing?

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

well, after much deliberation, I have decided against the Canyon as the geometry seems too far from what I've currently got, comparing the geometry charts they are just too far away for me to take a punt, especially having to wait till July for delivery to find the bike may not fit! I have gone for the Giant TCR Advanced 2 instead, will be ordering next week.

Thanks for all the responses. Will update once I get the bike.

Hi,

New here and first post. Thought I’d chip in. I’m 5’7 and used to ride a Triban 540 in medium which always felt ever so slightly too big for me. first road bike and guess the guy in decathlon sized me up wrong. Was only when I started playing around with tweaking my ride position I realised there wasn’t enough room to adjust things.

Last year I measured myself up using the canyon tool and went for the XS endurace disc frame to build up the bike myself and it’s spot on. I’ve recently flipped the stem for a little bit more comfort.

I’ve also got an XS Ultimate which again is spot on. In comparison to the endurace i feel a little more sat on top of the bike than the endurace. it feels a little smaller/cramped but in a good way. I.e twitchier and more nimble. Feels like I can throw it around under myself a lot easier. Think it’s probably due to the geometry and bars (one piece aero).

I tested the women's Endurace and I'm 5ft 6in (and a tiny bit) and the XS was perfect. I couldn't believe I needed an XS, but that's Canyon sizing.

Me too.  I measured for my Endurace and it came up 'small' even though every bike I've ever owned has been 'medium'.  So I measured again and then again but it still said 'small'.  So that's what I ordered and guess what - it's a perfect fit.

.....couple of reasons.

1) Weight - Ultimate is a fair bit lighter than the Endurace, and mine just feels a bit heavy (I have the CF SL Disc 8.0).  When I bought it in 2018 the Canyon website stated the weight as 7.6kg, the 2019 version (with no discernable differences) is now listed as 8.2kg.  Whatever the actual weight is it's just not as light as I was hoping, and I began looking for lighter wheel upgrades almost straight away.

2) When riding the bike I very much feel like I'm on top of it, rather than "in" it.  My previous bike was a cheap aluminium framed Felt, but with a slightly racier geometry (it was an F75).  For this reason I've slammed & lengthend the stem of my Endurace, and I must admit it feels much better.

All in all it's not a bad bike by any means, and maybe a wheel upgrade will transform it, but right now I feel a bit like I'm riding the equivalent of a VW Golf.  Not a bad bike by any means, and you could happily spend all day there, but it's just never gonna make your bits go fizzy 1

I built up a 2018 Endurace  CF SL frame  with Force  mech/chainset and Red HYD discs, LB 46mm carbon rims, Chris King R45 hubs, CX-Ray spokes and Bontrager Montrose Elite seat and it comes in at about 7.6kg. Go figure. Understand they have replaced the previous SLX pec  on new factory built SL models with an SL spec fork on this model, but still have SLX fork on the frameset, whish may be a tad lighter.

It's a great bike and def more racey than most endurance geometry IMO.  Reach is < 10mm less than Ultimate, stack is under 1cm higher , wheelbase is only 990 on my M size

I came to it from a Cannondale CAADX which I definitely felt like I sat on rather than in.

Yeah I've literally just been looking at the change in fork model/weight, glad I fall on the favourable side of things.

Maybe I just miss the "spring" effect of an alu bike on the climbs!  Also as mentioned I think some new rims might be just the ticket for this year.  In fairness my old bike was transformed by the Mavic Ksyriums I put on it.

if I'm honest... Price was the main reason, why do you regret getting the Endurance over the Ultimate?

I'm 5ft 9 and have a S.  Could probably get away with a M but I'm happy with the fit. I suspect an XS is probably right for you.  Don't forget that a Canyon S is actually a M for some other brands (54cm)

One thing I'm not happy about, and I suggest you think about this long & hard....I regret going for the Endurace (as opposed to the Ultimate) and since buying have attempted to make it as "Ultimatey" as possible.

What#s your rationale for choosing the Endurace?
