Is indeed Hammy! Seems she noticed my grumpiness about ventoux not really happening and decided to make me happy again.
Hope lance makes it to the start line. No matter what people think of him I would like to know that Ive seen him ride. Plus its going to be a day for the sprinters so there could well be fireworks...read the report here when it happens!
Sounds like my dream woman
My girlfriend has just told me she has booked a weekend in milan for my birthday to go and see the giro! (and an inter milan match)!
Yeah I looked into that exact ferry as it takes me between the two best ports for where I live but then the tgv is a lot more expensive than I expected 95euro each way
Jon, you tried LD Lines ferries that run from Portsmouth > Le Havre? They are cheap as chips, I travelled on there as foot passenger a year or so ago and it was considerably cheaper than P&O/Brittany Ferries.....but then I don't know any way of getting round the ££ train prices
All avenues?????
What about riding there?
I have exhausted all possibilities of getting to ventoux. The ferry and tgv will cost at least £250, flights to avignon are at least £200 and dont oblige them to carry my bike unless there is space, flights to aix or marseilles are at least £200...if anyone is going and I can chip in for petrol etc I would be oh so happy!
I might get to go to Weston Super Mare if I am lucky!
I think that is the closest I will get. another question, if I fky out the bike will need to be in a box...what would I do with the box if im riding from the airport? my other options are to get the eurostar or the bike bus...I don't have a car so driving myself is not going to happen. its something I want, maybe need to do!
you can ride to the ventoux from aix - i'm pretty sure that's the closest you'll get
I flew from Birmingham to Chambery with sleazyjet a few weeks back when we went snowboarding, but tha tmight only be a winter thing.
I'm tempted to dress up as something so the tv cameras notice me for that split second of fame. Maybe a french drugs tester, complete with onions around my neck and baguette under my arm? or would a gratis road.cc jersey do the trick?!
Might see you there indeed. I'll be the one wobbling up the hill at 7am with my compact chainring set up....
Might see you out there! The closest airport to ventoux seems to be aix en provence near marseilles (easyjet from bristol)...anyone know any different?
Me and 2 friends are heading to France to watch Le Tour, ideally the Annecy TT and also the Ventoux. We'll be loading my transported with tents and bikes, hoping to get some Alpine uplifted then gravity assisted descending on the go as well as quite a bit of road riding. Looking forward to it!
I'm heading off to ride from Geneva to Nice over the Alps with a group including Graeme Obree as featured on this site a while back

I really cannot wait to ride over the Restefonde, the descent is supposed to be amazing; if it can beat the descent of Ventoux I'll be a very happy man!
Nothing booked as of yet but hoping to get down to do a few days in the south of france, cath the tour at ventoux and do it myself of course then amble over to alpe d'huez for the triathlon the next weekend.
I might go up yorkshire for some riding round the dales and maybe a trip to Oban area for some west coast hills and valleys.
I don't think you'd go too far wrong heading south to Sligo, the North West Trail covers some amazing coastline and skirts some of the big loughs too. It's 326km so a decent stretch as well http://www.sustrans.org.uk/webfiles/leaflets/Sustrans_NWTrail_web_Aug08.pdf
my mother-in-law's family is from round there - she's a Quigley from Quigley's Point, proper local. Last time we were out there I did the 100-mile loop of the peninsula, it's all signposted and very lovely. Malin Head's a bit blowy though
Heading to Scotland for two weeks in May and the second week is an off road C2C from Stonehaven to Kyle of Lochalsh.
Also in early stages of planning a trip along Northern Ireland coast and into Donegal, maybe as far south as Sligo.
don't go south, get the ferry across to Moville on the Inishowen peninsula and go round the top to Malin head and down to Letterkenny. It's wonderful up there
Good times
Small Cottage in Cornwall with the wife and kids, oh and the bike, or bikes if I get my way
Who knows, somewhere in France, possibly the Pyrenees… maybe camping. Whatever, there will have to be access to the internet, so maybe I won't have to camp!
Good times. I am off to the coast near Girona and am going to see a few days of Le Tour.
Not really, though i might try and get out for a day or so from the credit crunch friendly uk based family cottage rental holiday week™
I've got a friend getting married at the end of august in ogeu-les-bains, and we're staying here:

it's right at the bottom of the portalet climb so i'm deffo going for a bimble up that, might try and do the aubisque too if there's time...
technically that last bit was about cycling
and the marie blanque!
i think you mean the Somport... the Portalet is the next one along.
If you do an out and back to the top of the Aubisque and over the marie blanque you might even get a metric century into the deal...
