About time too - universal mech hanger from SRAM.

If there was one thing on my Christmas list for bike design it was getting rid of the 500 or so different ways of hanging a derailleur from the frame.

It appears that SRAM has finally released such a beast for MTBs that hopefully all manufacturers can adopt. Even better it isn't just a bit of bent metal but has some tricks in design to deal with chains overshooting the small cog and some movement to protect the derailleur.

Why has it taken 20 odd years since the advent of the wee beasties to attempt to standardise it, after all Halfords saw the wisdom of a single hanger on their bottom end bikes.

Any other suggestions for pointlessly diverse designs that designers should be given a sharp poke in the ribs for every time a new variant comes along?

This has been available for around 3 years now, only seems to have gained traction in the MTB world, have not seen anything on road bikes.
