Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

And they've got the reg plate, so there should be no difficulty in tracing the driver or owner...

I had no idea that self-driving cars had become so common. Looks like the software needs some serious work.

Algorithm "hmm, might be a river, a billowing carrier bag or someone pushing a bike. Result : maintain 70% throttle."

I have it on good authority and fact checked by the BBC, Daily Mail and Sunday Times - SO - they must be correct and they say actually it was the building that crashed into the car..... so stop twisting the facts to fit your bicycle agenda okay.

My wife has persuaded me that, strictly speaking, it is against the law get some matches and set fire to buildings across the road. Oh, but it’s tempting.

I blame the river for not wearing hi-viz. Asking for it!

And - get this - it's tidal, it moves about - at 3 am at whatever m.p.h. Suffering from the ill effects of alcohol, what chance did she have?

Although it isn't clear whose car is in the river.

"The vehicle was fully submerged and was recovered this morning during low tide" a bit scary.

The tinpot organisations that "run" the New Forest really do my head in some times. There's a lot of anti-cycling sentiment generally*, but the animals go on dying and yet you hear no anti-car sentiment. Don't blame the visitors either  - this goes on all through the winter months as well. They could push for an an average speed zone on the B3078, but they don't.
I'd have thought it would be near impossible to disguise a car that had been involved in an animal collision, when you arrive home or when it comes to getting it repaired.

"Speaking at a recent meeting of the Verderers Court he said a driver who failed to stop after hitting a pony had been banned from the roads for six months.

The motorist was convicted of failing to stop after the collision on the B3078 Roger Penny Way, which links Brook and Godshill."

I am just confused with this one. How are the cyclists wankers supposed to wank off any cyclists if the only ones allowed there are the cyclists wankers?

Well, you've got to hand it to them

Can they stop cyclists peeing in my hedge?

I am fed up with these cretins in lycra pulling off teh road & doing their toilet in my property!
I caught one in July.
Next time I will detain them!

the article is mildly interesting - e-bikes tearing up the new forest and it mentions car parking too.

But it was kev's comment I wanted to highlight, dwelling as he presumably does, in a lake of cyclist urine...

Don't pee near the houses, people! Kev is still smarting about "that incident" 4 months ago.

Years ago I lived in the centre of Bristol.  Over the weekends, we'd regularly find used condoms hanging from the trees at the end of the garden (which overhung our fence and onto the pavement).

I don't think they were from cyclists, though.

That bus stop should have been wearing hi-viz. It's no wonder that poor motorist was unable to avoid the bus stop colliding with them.

BMW veers off roundabout, ploughs into building. 11.30 am on Monday, a dry, bright day in Penrhyn Bay, near Llandudno (30mph limit).

The owner of the shop was not surprised, quoted as saying "I often hear the screech of brakes and brace myself, easily between five and 10 times a day."

If he's getting that many close calls every day, then maybe the road is too dangerous for him to have his shop there. Honestly, why don't these people take responsibility for their own safety and move their building? It's all well and good saying that they have a right to have their shop there, but that's no good if you end up dead.

30mph limit according to the Council woman

Quote:

A spokeswoman from Conwy Council’s Environment, Roads and Facilities Service said: "Penrhyn Hill has a 30mph speed limit sign, a gradient warning sign and the roundabout is well signed in advance.

"We analyse collisions which cause casualties to prioritise our bids for Welsh Government road safety funding. Based on our analysis, this location isn’t a high collision area, but we will keep it under review.

"We expect all drivers to take note of road signs and drive responsibly."

Shame there isn't a strava equivalent to show it is potentially an accident hot spot. But you do have to laugh at her naiveity.

Edit: In most cases with roads like this, markings on the roads with the raised bumps and lots of large Slow Down signs are used. As of 2018, Street view shows one set of Gradient warnings, One to mention Roundabout and nothing on the roads bar a no entry sign at the bottom. I would argue the council are definitely not doing enough to warn if that is still the case.

I edited my post shortly afterwards after spotting that it was in fact 30 mph.

The road descending the hill is two lanes and IMHO should be one. Haven't driven it for a long time now but it's easy to pick up speed if you're not paying attention to the roundabout signs, the huge chevrons etc. The uphill carriageway is briefly two lanes then narrows to one for some distance before the roundabout at the top. Doesn't make sense.

Is there chevrons on the road now? As i pointed out, nothing on that road two years ago.

I've not needed to go over Little Orme and through PB for a number of years now. Will be driving along the A55 later today but not sure I really want to go out of my way just to check...

Maybe the local council should install some chicane barriers in the road?

Call me cynical, but if a driver fails to use simple observation to see the brdige is too low, why would they take any notice of an audible warning?

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/first-bus-looking-instal...

If they are serious, then it needs to be linked to an automatic braking system that can't easily be turned off.
