It is designed like this and is not a problem. The thu axel or QR holds it all together when on the bike.
If that is the case, it's a little similar to Hunt wheels. So a word of warning....be careful when removing the wheel. I had a puncture, in France, and removed the wheel, while standing beside a drain. You already know exactly where one end cap ended up....not a good day.
Seems like a design flaw to me - there are various reasons one might want to take off a wheel and none of them mean you want things unexpectedly falling off!
Do you know why they do it - I assume it saves a tiny bit of weight and/or manufacturing cost?
I don't think so but I guess it's subjective. It takes a bit of a tug to get it off just like most hub adapters I have come across. It does however have the advantage of you being able to fix things on the road without tools. Last week I freed a friends freehub that was jammed with threads from a gp5000. Would have needed a few tools with a different design.
Thanks Stuart, I thought it might be the case that the thru axel keeps it secured, but wanted to check!
I upgraded from my fulcrum wheels, and the free hub was securely attached, so just wanted to ensure the Rovals were designed this way - thanks for your reply!![](/sites/all/themes/rcc/images/smilies/1.gif)
