January 15th is the date they give out the mechanical brakes not the day they fix the problem. Rumour Control suggests that it will be more like June when the hydraulics are sorted and distributed.
At least SRAM is doing everything they can to fix it quickly. I mean January 15 is only a couple of weeks away and they are providing replacements in the mean time
Bit mortified over this. Built up a 2013 FACT 10 Roubaix disc with SRAM Red and other items of beauty. Waited for disc specific road rims to become availaible (super light RYDE), was so very patient, so's I could have it all done at once...
Built up, put in the bike shop window for Christmas so's they could show it off, it is GORGEOUS. More or less as it went in the window the recall came. Now all it has ahead is a strip down, haven't even ridden it around the block. Gutted.
The Charge Plug 5 does have SRAM hydro disc brakes, ours was collected the other day. The brakes were fine during the test period. Better than fine actually, the tester was hugely impressed with them

If calipers have worked for good knows how many years then what's the use of a bigger mechanical system added to a bike - doesn't make sense!
They might not work very well but they look great!
Well kudos to SRAM for the way they've reacted but what a mess. I almost weakened and bought a Charge Plug 5 but went the Juicer Hi instead mainly because it had 105 instead of the SRAM groupset on the Plug and so relieved I did. I've already got one bike with SRAM and don't rate it at all, it feels low quality compared to Shimano. I really feel sorry for Companies like Charge whose reputation is damaged by this kind of problem, even if they are compensated for the recall I bet they won't get anything for consequential losses?
I'm sorry Arthur but I don't see how your comment relates to this story? The plug 5 does not have SRAM hydro brakes so is not affected in this recall. Your preference for shimano is just that, many choose SRAM over shimano. As for 'loss of reputation' well you still bought a charge so hasn't affected them obviously?
[idiot mode] sorry Arthur, as pointed out by David (Arthur), I'm wrong. Looked at pics of plug 5 and it shows cable discs, must have been pre-prod model. Oops[/idiotmode]
Yes it should, and I've changed it
SRAM aims to have replacement mechanical brakes available by January 15 2013.
should it be 2014??
