LCC led rides organised for climate change demo

More rides from around the country too

Thousands of people will flow through the streets of London in a blue wave of support for a safe climate future for all on Saturday, December 5. And you can lend your support thanks to LCC, who are organising guided rides to join the demonstration in central London supporting climate change action ahead of crucial talks at the UN summit in Copenhagen.

The Wave will take the form of a carnival-style street procession beginning at noon from Grosvenor Square in London, with a stunning finale will take place at 3pm as The Wave encircles the Houses of Parliament.

The LCC led rides will arrive in Grosvenor Square in time for the midday march, and all participants are asked to wear blue, for what organisers hope will be one of the largest street demonstrations in UK history.

So far, LCC led rides have been confirmed from Islington, Hackney, Lambeth, Merton, Southwark and Wandsworth, and if you are interested in joining a ride, visit www.lcc.org.uk.

The family-friendly event is being organised by the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition. The Stop Climate Chaos Coalition represents 11 million members across 100 UK organisations, from the Women’s Institute and RSPB to Oxfam and Unison. All are united in their demand for an end to dirty coal, and a fair and just international climate change deal that protects the worlds’ poorest communities.

Director of Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, Ashok Sinha said: “The Wave will send a strong message to Gordon Brown that people in the UK want to see their government do all that’s needed to deliver a strong and fair deal that puts poor people and the planet first at Copenhagen.

“All the eyes of our 11 million strong coalition will be on world leaders as they gather in the Danish capital to ensure climate justice is delivered.

The Wave is encouraging people to follow the theme by wearing blue clothing and bringing blue fabric, banners and props. For more information www.the-wave.org.uk.

The LCC is not the only organisation putting on led rides to The Wave – Climate Chains are organising Wheels to the Wave rides through Bradford on November 30, Sheffield on December 1, Nottingham on December 2, Peterborough on December 3 and Cambridgeon December 4, and they will conclude in Walthamstow. For more information on how to join that visit http://www.stopclimatechaos.org/the-wave.

And the and Swindon Blue Wave has also organised a cycle ride to London from Thursday, December 3-December 5 which will follow parts of the Sustrans National Cycle Route 4 which is a total of 157 miles, with overnight stops in Newbury and Richmond.
