Giant has revealed on its website it is launching two brand new cycling helmets this summer, the £64.99 Streak and £99.99 Rev.
The range-topper Rev is a smart looking helmet with plenty of air vents. It’s reasonably light at a claimed 265g. That compares well to the Bontrager Specter (298g) and Bell Sweep (275g), two similarly priced helmets, though you can get lighter for that sort of cash.
Giant has developed the CINCH+ retention system, comprising a micro dial that is easy to adjust and lightweight. It’s described as having “large scoop like paddles protrude outwards to cradle the cranium”, so it sounds like it should hug your head securely.
It’s constructed with a polycarbonate micro shell and an Internal Structural Shell (ISS) providing added strength without adding too much weight. 21 vents puncture the shell to provide the necessary cooling effect in warmer weather. Giant’s proprietary TransTextura™ Plus anti-microbial padding is 5mm thick and uses an X-odour technology to prevent them ponging after loads of riding. The pads can be swapped for thinner 3mm pads if you need to adjust the fit.
The Rev is available in three sizes, S (51-55cm) M (55-59cm) L (59-63cm). It’s CPSC and CE certified.
Costing £64.99, the Streak closely resembles the Rev in the styling department, and shares several features, including the new CINCH+ fit system. There’s the same TransTextura™ Plus anti-microbial padding on the inside, available in 3 or 5mm thickness.
It’s made using two in-mould polycarbonate shells with an EPS cover. There are 19 vents on this one, so not quite as ventilated as the Rev. It’s also a bit heavier with a claimed weight of 300g. Unlike the Rev, the Streak can be fitted with a visor (or peak) so you can use it for mountain biking and still fit in.
Both helmets will be available in the summer. We’ll let you know when we have more details, and hopefully we’ll get one in for review.
