David Millar’s Fizik shoes raise £460 for charity in online auction

Remember last weekend we told you about David Millar’s custom Fizik shoes being auctioned for the Small Steps Project charity? Well, they sold for £460. But don’t worry, there are another two pairs currently being sold if you want to get your hands on some very special, and possibly a bit smelly, shoes.

David Millar is marking his 18th and final season as a professional cyclist by wearing unique one-off Fizik shoes in every race he competes in it throughout the year. The project, dubbed ‘An Eloquence Of Movement', is a collaboration between Millar and his sponsor Fizik, celebrating each race, with the shoes being sold through an online auction after each race.

The proceeds from the auctions will go to Small Steps Project charity. The Small Steps Project is a humanitarian organisation supporting children who survive by scavenging on the world’s rubbish dumps. The UK-registered charity is dedicated to helping children around the world – and their families – who live on landfill sites and other rubbish dumps. It raises awareness of the unacceptable hardships these people face, and provides practical aid and programs to help them break out of their plight, into education and employment.

The first pair of shoes in this project, created for the Challenge Majorca race last month, have just sold for £460. Not bad at all. The shoes he raced in at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kurne-Brussels-Kurne are currently up for grabs. Currently they’re at £100 and £50 respectively, but with 5 and 12 days remaining for both, we expect those prices to ramp up quite a bit. 

Each shoe design, hand made in Italy, is specific to the race and its region to “tell the emotional story of David’s involvement at this race – in 2014 and over the past two decades.”
