Support Chris Froome? Get your limited edition Sidis

Yellow Sidi Wires are the same as the ones Froome used when he rode into Paris last year

With the Tour de France just around the corner, now might be a good time to get your feet into a pair of limited edition Sidi Wires in yellow, created to celebrate Chris Froome’s 2013 Tour victory. These are the shoes that Froome used as he rode to victory in Paris last year – yellow to match his jersey, of course.

The Wires are Sidi’s top road shoes featuring a Vent carbon sole that’s designed to be lightweight and stiff. As the name suggests, there are integrated air channels in the sole to allow your feet to breathe. You can close the vents if you like.

Closure is via two Techno-3 System dials. You turn the dial to tighten them up and press a button on the side to release the wire. The top dial controls a wide, curved strap that’s intended to distribute the pressure, and you can replace the entire system should it ever wear out. The polyurethane heel pad and toe pad are also replaceable.

The Wires are available in several colours, but not usually in this yellow model

The price? They’re £306, which is a bit more than you’d pay for a standard set of Wires.

Yellow. Shoes.'

No. Not yellow shoes, or even Yellow. Shoes.

Yellow. Sidis.

Let the true hideousness of that sink in. It's the sort of stunt you'd expect from Specialized or any number of other 'sports' footwear companies. Not Sidi.

Is there a bit on the heel to stash your "therapeutic" inhaler?

Finally, a reason to support Bertie! Spesh the company is often dubious, but their damn body geometry shoes fit me too well.

Actually, I am in the market for new shoes, but I certainly won't be paying this kind of money for them...

Or Team Sky's new racing shoes from Rapha to be released in time for TDF.

Well whatever I buy, they aren't likely to cost more than £150. Perhaps I should amputate one leg (got a knee injury anyway, so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone!) then I'll be able to afford the Rapha?!

Wide-footed. It's wide-footed! 13 21

Besides, you need a such a curve on the toes as to have a pea-sized little toe, or they pinch at the outside. What kind of weirdo is born with aero-shaped toes?!

They look cool, but every time I see someone wearing Sidi's, I know I'm looking at someone with slightly weird-shaped feet.
