If you’re in London, head on down to Green Park now to watch professional trials rider Andrei Burton and his team of stunt cyclists try to break nine Guinness World Records as part of Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle.
Featuring six of the world’s top ten riders, including two of the current UCI world champions, the team will stage the Guinness World Records Street Trials Battle at the FreeCycle Festival Zone in Green Park.
Burton has set a world record for the 26 inch category three times in his ten year career.
“I loved being part of the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show last year and it seemed like a perfect opportunity to take the team to a new level and try to break some Guinness World Records,” he said.
Joining Burton in the record attempts will be Abel Mustieles, Vincent Hermance, Rick Koekoek, Joe Seddon and Jack Carthy.
Spanish rider Mustieles is the current trials rider world champion in the elite speciality (20 inches category), tops the world rankings and has won the World Cup and European Championships. >
“He is the best rider on the planet right now,” says Burton. “He’s has been training really hard and, because he hasn’t broken any Guinness World Records yet, I’m sure he’ll be hogging the limelight to try and get as many of the records as possible.”
Another rider to look out for is the promising young trials rider Jack Carthy. The British rider claimed bronze at age 17 last year in only his second UCI World Cup. He is the current junior European and UK champion.
“He’s unbelievably good and a natural powerhouse,” says Burton. “He has had an amazing start to his career and he will only get better. His Guinness World Record attempts will be something special for all watching.”
Completing the team are leading trial rider Vincent Hermance (current world champion in the 26 inch category), Dutch rider Rick Koekoek (ranked 3rd in the UCI World Cup standings) and Joe Seddon (former British elite champion and international competitor).
“All the guys are absolute monsters and I have no doubt there will be plenty of records broken on the day,” says Burton. “I have performed in plenty of big crowds before, including the Top Gear Live World Tour, but the nerves always kick in when a world record is involved.
“I’ve worked hard to create a spectacular course and we are all really excited to get out in front of the London crowds and break some records.”
The team will attempt the records over a two hour period between 12:00 and 14:00, with a warm-up and introduction to the team before the challenges begin.
