Video: "Victory is my motivation," says Peter Sagan - as he rides MTB on Mount Etna

With Milan-San Remo taking place tomorrow, Peter Sagan, fresh from a stage win and the points jersey at Tirreno-Adriatico has spoken of how victory pushes him to win more races in a short film that also sees him ride on the slopes of Mount Etna.

Tomorrow, the pressure is on Tinkoff-Saxo’s star signing for 2015 to deliver what would be his first win in a Monument and get the team its first big result of the year. 

Team owner Oleg Tinkov this week called on management and riders to deliver results after a less-than-sparkling start to the year, including Alberto Contador failing to challenge for the overall at Tirreno-Adriatico, won on Tuesday by Movistar’s Nairo Quintana.

That race did however see Sagan take a stage victory – perhaps surprisingly, the 25-year-old’s first since taking a stage of the Tour de Suisse in June last year.

Sagan has had five top-ten finishes in Monuments and in 2013 was runner-up at both Paris-Roubaix and Milan-San Remo – and he takes the start line in Milan tomorrow as second favourite behind defending champion Alexander Kristoff of Katusha.

“Victory for me is motivation,” says Sagan in this short video produced by team sponsor Saxo Bank.

“When I win one stage or some race, it’s motivation for another victory. It’s like this is what I am in this world,” he added.
