Guitar legend Carlos Santana says he has been put off cycling by the injuries sustained by U2 frontman Bono when he was involved in a crash while riding in New York City’s Central Park last year.

The 67-year-old, known for his guitar playing on hits such as Black Magic Woman, told Billboard magazine his wife had bought him a bike to get around Las Vegas, where the couple spend much of their time, reports Music News.

But he added that the shattered arm and other injuries Bono suffered had made him think twice about getting in the saddle.

"My wife, Cindy, just got me a bicycle. I'm leery about trying that after what happened to brother Bono, but she said that was different because it happened in Central Park," he explained – adding that the area around Las Vegas had its own specific hazards.

"In the desert you might hit a coyote, but that's it," he said.

I like Santana as a musician, but that's as far as it goes. If we took his attitude, none of us would leave our homes.

Why is Carlos Santana's opinion relevant here?

I was put off latin-rock by his unnecessary reliance on jazz stylings, but you don't hear me whingeing about it.
