Felt reveal sneak peek of 2016 F1X disc-equipped cyclocross bike

It's only April but already 2016 road bikes are starting to be announced by bike manufacturers, and revealing a sneak peek of its latest model at the annual Sea Otter show in California this week is Felt, with a photo of its newly updated F1X disc-equipped cyclocross being shared on Instagram.

Felt has gradually been adding more disc brake models to its cyclocross range over the years, and it has now turned its attention to its flagship model, the F1X. For 2016 Felt has given the frame a 142x12mm bolt-thru rear axle, to go along with the existing 15mm thru-axle fork. That change makes it one of the few cyclocross bikes with thru-axles front and rear.

The new frame also gets a number of other changes. It now has internal cable and hose routing and is compatible with electronic groupsets - the pictured bike is built up with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset with a Rotor single ring chainset.

The frame is made from the same UHC and TeXtreme carbon fibre the company has been using on its previous flagship road bikes for a number of years. This TeXtreme Spread Tow carbon fabric, produced by Swedish company Oxeon AB, uses an interlacing tape instead of yarn. This arrangement of fibres produces thinner tube walls and reduces crimping inside the structure, and the orientation of the tapes can be tailored for different requirements.
