With the Tour de Yorkshire's inaugural race being held this weekend in York Morvélo thought it would be fun to carry on the party with the fourth installment of Morvélo CityCross on Saturday 13th June 2015.

Morvélo CityCross is never in the same place twice, it’s been held in a grubby tip in Halifax and around the majestic Piece Hall in the same town, in Holbeck Urban Village in Leeds and for the latest round of this unique series it’s being run at Rowntree Park right in the middle of York.

Morvélo CityCross is a unique style of cyclocross race that are set in urban spaces, and one that also throws traditional race formats in the dog-poo bin and runs a series of "Motos" across all categories with the top 50% of each Moto qualifying for their respective Final.

Each race is a 20+ minute blast around a course that comprises of man made obstacles, multiple lines, barriers and more. For Round Four that means a race around the ornamental gardens of Rowntree Park, with steps, ramps, berms, bridges and even a fountain to crash into, testing skills and speed in close elbows-out racing combined with good old fashioned tongue-out fun. Much like how you used to race your friends around the streets and woods on BMXs taking in all manner of detours and obstacles.

Road.cc’s VecchioJo ventured epically North of to take part in both the inaugural CityCross and then Round Two in the Halifax Piece Hall and came away shell-shocked but tired and happy.
In Morvélo’s eyes, everyone is a winner. Or at least could be. With CityCross 4 Morvélo are running 'Race Your Mates' again. A mini competition within teams to give you a shot of coming away with unfathomable glory, with a prize for the fastest lap within your own team, so ignore everyone else and put the hammer down to make sure you get the bragging rights in the bar after. Simply get a group of you to pre-enter together and you'll be automatically put into the challenge.

There are separate categories for everyone; women, senior men, V40 men, youth/junior and of course our novice races with the famous DarkStar beer hand ups.

As is the Morvélo way it’s not all about the racing, it's a whole fun day out. For both racers and spectators there will be music, MC's, beer, pizza, coffee, cakes, stalls, stands and all the fun stuff you've come to love.

Weird - it was there earlier.
mdavidfrodo?
I'm not a Lance fan at all but the snarky tone of this is just dumb.
How can anybody reject the beauty of that? It's a wonderful mix of modern tech yet absolutely functional.
Not unless theVED is made eye wateringly expensive....
Hyponatremia is a real risk even for an amateur cyclist or runner in hot weather. I've bonked from it before, and I was drinking Gatorade the whole...
in the UK we have policing which to a greater or lesser extent relies on assistance from members of the public......
Just wanted to share a quick thank you to everyone who helped out in this thread....
So...don't cycle on it. Lots of other routes around that area. Source: I used to work there.
My photochromic specs have just turned up in the post today
