The charity Asthma UK has launched a two-day charity ride along the South Coast called Beach to Beach, starting at the bucket-and-spade-friendly golden sands of Bournemouth and finishing at the more pebbly Brighton.
Along the way, the itinerary takes in some of Britain’s most spectacular scenery, heading inland through the New Forest on day one then onto the South Downs for an overnight stop at West Wittering, then along the South Coast past resorts such as Worthing and Shoreham on day two to the finish in Brighton.
The 80-mile ride takes place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May, coinciding with the end of the charity’s fundraising week, and you can sign up by visiting Asthma UK’s website, or by telephoning 0800 121 62 55. The registration fee of £49 includes overnight camping, and minimum sponsorship is £250.
All participants will get an Asthma UK T-shirt plus a fundraising pack, regular team newsletters, tips and advice on training, support from the team at the event itself, and a post-event reception. The route itself will have clear signage, mechanical support and regular feeding stations.
Asthma UK also gives a nod to the 1950s heyday of the Great British seaside holiday, which has been experiencing a bit of a renaissance in recent years, by encouraging participants to wear in fancy dress from the period, with priozes on offer for the best – so roll up your trouser legs, stck some saucy postcards in your spokes and a knotted hankie or Kiss Me Quck hat on top of your lid, and you’re on your way. Using a stick of rock in place of a seatpost isn’t recommended, however.
Self-driving cars are far from perfect now and might never be perfect, but there would seem to come a point where there should be a public...
Weird - it was there earlier.
mdavidfrodo?
How can anybody reject the beauty of that? It's a wonderful mix of modern tech yet absolutely functional.
Not unless theVED is made eye wateringly expensive....
Hyponatremia is a real risk even for an amateur cyclist or runner in hot weather. I've bonked from it before, and I was drinking Gatorade the whole...
in the UK we have policing which to a greater or lesser extent relies on assistance from members of the public......
Just wanted to share a quick thank you to everyone who helped out in this thread....
So...don't cycle on it. Lots of other routes around that area. Source: I used to work there.
My photochromic specs have just turned up in the post today
