Fitbit adds Strava integration

Fitbit, makers of activity trackers like the new Surge with built-in GPS and HRM, which we reported on recently, has now added Strava integration to all its devices.

The Fitbit activity trackers are designed to be worn all the time so they can constantly track your level of activity, from the number of steps you take on a daily basis to monitoring sleep patterns. Now when you do some actual exercise, like cycling to work for example, you can share that activity to Strava. Activities are automatically uploaded to Strava when you sync the Fitbit to a computer or compatible smartphone using Bluetooth.

“Strava works with dozens of activity tracking and GPS devices, but this two-way integration with market-leader Fitbit is the first of its kind,” said David Lorsch, VP of Business Development, Strava. “Strava athletes using a Fitbit device like the Fitbit Surge can now choose to record their runs or rides with Strava and connect with our global community, while using their Fitbit tracker and interactive tools to get a comprehensive view of their all-day activity and sleep patterns.”

Fitbit recently released the Surge (£199.95), an activity tracker with GPS and an optical heart rate sensor with cycling-specific modes. It can record real-time bike stats including distance, duration, average speed, heart rate, calories burned, and now you can upload those activities straight to Strava.
