Focus adds Cayo AL Disc to 2016 range

Following hot on the heels of its new Izalco Max Disc, German bicycle manufacturer Focus has added an all-new aluminium Cayo AL Disc road bike to its 2016 range.

The new bike, available in three builds, complements the existing carbon fibre Cayo with disc brakes and replaces the Culebro. The carbon fibre Cayo was updated last year with a disc brake option. It's a UCI-ready frame and sits one rung below the Izalco Max in the range.

The new bike sports the same geometry as the carbon fibre Cayo Disc and uses the same carbon fibre fork. Like the Izalco Max Disc, it uses thru-axles at both wheels. The company’s RAT (Rapid Axle Technology) allows for speedy wheel changes. You can see how easily it works in the video linked below.

The new aluminium frame features fully internal cable routing and has a 27.2mm seatpost. It’ll be sold in three variants, the Cayo AL Disc 105, Cayo AL Disc Tiagra and, for women, the Cayo AL Disc Donna Tiagra.

The top-of-the-range Cayo AL Disc 105 model is specced with Shimano’s RS685 hydraulic disc brakes with mechanical shifters. There’s a Shimano RS500 52/36t chainset with an 11-28t cassette. Focus makes good use of its own Concept EX parts brand and the wheel make use of DT Swiss R522 rims.

Step down to the Cayo AL Disc Tiagra and we find a bike fitted out Shimano Tiagra mechanical parts and with Shimano’s BR517 mechanical disc brakes. Again it’s a clean sweep of Concept EX parts in all the usual places with the same DT Swiss R522 rims again used. The bike also retains the same semi-compact 52/36t chainset, something we're see a lot more frequently on new bikes this year.

Finally, the Cayo AL Disc Donna Tiagra is built with the latest Shimano Tiagra groupset with Shimano R17 mechanical disc brakes and 160mm rotors front and rear, and Schwalbe Lugano 25mm tyres. This bike will be available in three sizes, 48, 51 and 54cm.

Focus says this model will be built with women-specific saddles and handlebars. It’s also not clear if it’ll be offered in colours other than the pink on black shown in the press release. 

Focus hasn't released any prices for these new bikes yet, but as soon as we do know we'll updated this article and let you know.
