Always amazes me that people who go to watch bike races think it's a good idea to park on the course.
It looked like he was following a team mate who suddenly moved left to get around the car. Maybe the team mate wasn't paying attention and Cav was busy watching his team mate's wheel (and not looking ahead)? It's easy to do when you're suffering in a race.
Hard to blame the parking/car driver/organiser on that one, IMO. The car was parked off the road itself (or appears to be) and the rest of the road is free for the riders...who all ride past using just 2 feet of the road at its very edge, in a single file and many are stem watching (the pace is obviously very high).
I wonder whether Cav said any sweary words...
Is it true Cav gave the car a bollocking before they took him to hospital - and then blamed the driver?
Chapeau to the spectators taking care of him after he fell.
He was wearing a helmet so ok. All those cars driving by seeing cyclist down not moving up ahead, possibly badly hurt. As they get near relief as not our Team colours not our man, pass on by.
he did appear to be stem watching
His head is down and then he looks up at the last second, tries to swerve away from the car and scones himself.
Just lifted his head too late. I wonder why they were all following the edge of the road quite so closely...
Nasty, you don't come by those rainbow bands easily. Well done to everyone else who stayed calm. But, was the car okay? (Said no-one.)
