Details of road traffic collisions dating back to 2005 have been included on an interactive map produced by Transport for London. Isabel Dedring, deputy mayor for transport, said: "The map is part and parcel of our drive to improve road safety awareness and complements ongoing work to overhaul and improve London's key roads and junctions."
The data, which can be filtered to show only those incidents involving cyclists, can be viewed as a borough level heat map, or you can zoom in to find more detailed information, such as the exact location, date and vehicles involved in each incident.
It’s also possible to filter results by collision severity and age group, while the data is displayed by year, meaning you can select the period you are interested in using the slider below the map.
Last year, 13 cyclists were killed in London, while 419 were seriously injured.
Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Surface Transport at TfL, said:
“This mapping tool will enable us to work with our partners and local communities to make significant improvements in road safety. Alongside major modernisation work at junctions, effective enforcement by the Police and action to make lorries safer, this is one of many measures we are taking to further reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.”
TfL already uses collision data – combined with traffic flow data, traffic counts and bus information – to identify areas where additional road safety improvements are required. However, The London Evening Standard reports that in the coming months, an API (application programming interface) will be released, which will allow software developers to create their own programs based on the map and its data.

This could come dangerously close to being just a street map of London.
Took me a while to find my incident:
"On Friday 27 August 2010 at 07:40 a collision occurred at The Vale junction with First Avenue in Ealing involving a other motor vehicle and a pedal cycle. An adult pedal cyclist was slightly injured"
Slightly injured includes being blue lighted to hospital with suspected broken ribs and a 25cm long hole in my leg and being kept in overnight because of head injury risk. "Slightly injured" is probably a fair description as there were few lasting effects fortunately, though it certainly didn't feel like that at the time.
Really interesting if you live in London.
I don't.
Grim.
if you wanted to create some views of the data like this then you can also use https://data.collideosco.pe we're hoping to get data from the near miss project, cyclestreets and CTC soon too
The data doesn't appear to be correct. At least they are not capturing ever accident.
I was hit by a car in August 2013, was blue lighted to hospital and attended by police, but it doesn't appear on this map.
This is pretty good too: http://collideosco.pe/ You can also report near misses, accidents, etc.
Just checked it out.....uuummm, leaves a lot to be desired! All of these things are only as good as the data provided. Reportable accidents within the Metropolitan Police District, have so many stats covered in their report books it would make your eyes water....providing they've been filled out properly of course!!
