Peter Sagan’s world champion livery Specialized Tarmac unveiled

Peter Sagan has received a few custom painted race bikes throughout his short career, but the latest is probably the most special he has yet been given. The 25-year old professional cyclist will be debuting this new bike at the Abu Dhabi Tour this week, his first race since winning the UCI World Championships in Richmond.

It’s a regular Specialized Tarmac but with the red, blue, black, yellow and green of the UCI World Champion rainbow stripes, in a camo style pattern, across the top tube, down tube and forks, with a glittery base paint. Traditionalists might bemoan the lack of conventional rainbow bands anywhere on the bike. His name, also in the rainbow stripes, is printed on the top tube.

The Specialized embossed head badge is painted gold, and if you look closely at the S-Works logo on the down tube, you can see the names of all the winners of the previous editions of the world championships. Top marks if you can reel off the last ten winners without Googling. That’s a nice touch. The top of the down tube is adorned with the double cross from the Slovakian coat of arms. 

Prologo has been busy too, creating a custom Scratch 2 saddle to match the paint job on the frame. Elsewhere the bike is pretty much identical to the one he used to clinch the world champs in Richmond recently.

That means a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 drivetrain with an FSA K-Force Light chainset and Roval CLX 60 wheels - these are the deepest rims in the Roval range.

The Tinkoff-Saxo team switch from Zipp to FSA handlebars and stems this season, but Sagan is clearly still using a Zipp Sprint stem. He does use a regular team edition FSA seat post, a rainbow stripes one would better match the frame, though.

The handlebar is an FSA aluminium traditional bend handlebar, and it’s wrapped with white FSA bar tape. Sagan uses the optional Di2 sprint shifters, concealed under the bar tape next to the hoods.
