Britain’s biggest social cycling network, Ride Social, has launched a new campaign video. The film, which focuses on both road cycling and mountain biking, aims to give a sense of the diversity of the Ride Social network and the opportunities it provides to meet like-minded cyclists.
Ride Social was set up by British Cycling in partnership with Sky in 2013 to help cyclists meet like-minded riders. The free service also allows users to create their own groups and organise their own rides.
2015 has seen record Ride Social participation figures recorded. From April to September, 3,988 rides took place (a 50 per cent increase on 2014) with 31,836 cyclists participating in a ride (a 32 per cent increase).
Stewart Kellett, British Cycling’s Director of Recreation and Partnerships, said:
“Two years ago, more and more people were using the internet to exchange details, routes and people started talking to us and saying why don’t we get an online tool so people can do it more formally.
“Now we have a situation where tens of thousands of people all across the country are instigating rides via Ride Social. All you need to do is put your postcode into the website and find people posting rides at different levels. It’s a great way to get to know your local area and be active in a social, friendly environment at the same time.”

"Aims to highlight how the network is suited to riders of all types and ability"
I hope there are more categories than jumping mountain bikers and lycra and helmet clad roadies. If I were a newbie considering taking up cycling or an elderly/unfit person thinking of returning to cycling I'd be pretty intimidated by that video.
Good idea
