Video: Is this the future of cycling accessories? Probably not but we want one for our ride-out picnic

Brilliant DIY instructions for solar-powered bike stereo

Tech boffin Matt Bosher has built his own  solar-powered bike stereo for summer cycling. Here he shares full step-by-step instructions on how to turn a humble plastic produce crate into a pro-quality boom box.

Mr Bosher from Tempe, Arizona, is not only a do-it-yourself genius but also possessed of a rare sense of humour. We've all seen plastic crates pressed into service on bike racks but usually only carrying mundane items like leeks from the allotment.

Combining hi-tech skillz with old skool savvy, the step-by-step instructions here guide you to build probably the single most useful cycling accessory you will ever use. Or certainly if you plan to hold a mini-festival in a field this summer.
