Guided cycle tour fundraisers for Cumbria flood repairs

Events are part of The Grand Day Out in Cumbria

A number of guided cycle tours are to be held as part of The Grand Day Out in Cumbria. The county-wide fundraising day will be held on January 16th and will raise funds for the Cumbria Community Foundation Flood Appeal, Mountain Rescue and other voluntary rescue services.

Cycle events begin in Greystoke and Kendal with a range of routes on offer, from a leisurely spin suitable for everyone in the family through to longer rides. The exact routes are to be confirmed and will depend upon conditions.

The events are expected to sell out quickly. Tickets for the Greystoke rides are available here and for the Kendal rides here. Online tickets will cost £15 with all proceeds going to the Cumbria Community Foundation.

There will be no more than 15 cyclists per group, each of which will be led and supported by a volunteer cycle leader. There will also be a raffle with money raised donated to the Mountain Rescue.

The Grand Day Out in Cumbria will also feature a number of other events, including trail runs, fell walks and a film night.

Last month we reported how at least two cycle bridges had been damaged as a result of flooding in Cumbria, including one across the River Greta on the popular cross-country C2C route.
