Appeal issued as cyclist killed in Wakefield

Fatal collision involving white Ford Transit van happened on Thursday morning

Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was killed following a collision involving a white Ford Transit van in Wakefield yesterday morning.

The rider, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Doncaster Road close to the junction with Oakenshaw Lane.

West Yorkshire Police said in a statement that the driver of the van was assisting them with their enquiries.

Sergeant Carl Quinn from the force’s Major Collision Enquiry Team said: "I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area around 07:50 this morning [Thursday 25 February], and may have seen either the vehicle, or the cyclist prior to the incident, or who witnessed the collision itself to come forward."

Anyone who saw the collision or who has information is requested to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101, quoting reference 0245 of 25 February.
