The Richardson Rumble sportive returns for the eighth to Cambridgeshire next Sunday 10th April, offering a flat, fast 100 miler to kick off the season.
Intended as the year’s first 100 miler, “without the pressure of a classic sportive”, all three routes, including the shorter 100km and beginner friendly 55k (34 mile) route, start and finish in St Ives, on quiet roads, allowing riders to test their legs over four counties on a flat, fast century.
Organisers say don’t be fooled by the lack of hills, though – the area is notorious for its winds.
The ride starts and finishes outside sponsor, Richardsons Cycles Group, shop in St Ives, with feed stations en route. Expect Clifbar drinks and bars, and Bloks with fruit and cake. Finishers get a food token for the local café to refuel on beans on toast and a hot drink.
Ride captains will be available for less experienced riders, to advise groups on nutrition and riding in a group during the event – this service is free, but only available for the 67 and 30 milers, and needs to be booked in advance. Mechanics will also be available at Richardson’s shops and a mobile service van on the route, as well as a broom wagon to pick up terminal mechanicals and riders. There's lots of free car parking, too.
Online entries close at midnight on 7 April, before which the long route costs £27, medium £25 and short £17. After 7 April prices go up by £5.

As a member of the Co-op community (I live in a Housing Co-op) and a bike owner /rider, this is very sad news. We need more Co-ops not less.

That looks like a fun bike. Frame only, 2 and an 1/2 grand.
Fair enough, personal experience may trump (not that one) theory. However, the bonking I have experienced has been due to lack of carbs. Your point...
