More than 3,000 people teamed up in Mexico City yesterday to create a huge human bicycle as the nation’s capital celebrated the start of its Semana de la Bicicleta – Bicycle Week – now in its third edition.
The event is aimed at promoting two wheels as a way of getting round that is both healthy and helps reduce pollution, with the city, like many others around the world trying to reduce emissions from motor vehicles.
The city government posted a speeded-up video to Twitter of the moment the ‘bicycle,’ located in the huge Plaza de la Constitución – better known as the Zócalo – being created.

It also tweeted to say that yesterday’s Muévete En Bici ride had seen a record participation of more than 56,000 cyclists.
