Cambridgeshire-based Quella has released the Evo which it boldly claims is “three bikes in one” and can tackle commuting, road riding or off-road just by swapping out a few parts and components. 

The company, which makes its frames by hand and sells direct through its website, has used a Columbus Cromor tubeset to build the frame, and it essentially looks like a cyclocross bike with cantilever brakes and space for wide tyres.

It’s offering a choice of builds depending on your riding style. You can opt for a singlespeed or fixed wheel option, or spec a 2-speed SRAM Automatix gear hub. There’s no conventional gearing option on offer, but that is part of the reason the company has been able to keep the price down at £600.

With space for up to 35mm tyres you’re not limited by tyre choice and the frame is decked out with two bottle cage mounts and all the eyelets for fitting optional mudguards and front and rear racks, the latter ideal if you want to use it for multi-day touring

The Evo is available in orange, black and purple/black, or you can treat yourself to a custom paint finish for an extra £100. The SRAM Automix adds £75 on top of the base price and you can add mudguards and front or rear racks for £40 each.

In singlespeed build, Quella claims the Evo weighs 10.5kg (23.1lb).

£600 isn't cheap. It's only Quella.

A singlespeed bike might work for touring around Cambridgeshire, but for everywhere else it's going to suck.

let alone any off roading ie bridleways etc, where even if it's loose sections are hard or impassable with out some range of gears.

 

to be honest the cheaper CX bikes would than able to handle all three uses.
