Cycling fans are being offered the chance to measure their speed against WorldTour pros Ben Swift, Philip Deignan and Beñat Intxausti in the 25 mile Silverstone Time Trial Challenge.
Riders who sign up for the STTC, which takes place on 2 October 2016, will be able to compete in ten mile and 25 mile TTs, a single lap, 3.6 mile challenge or a 25-mile team time trial for teams of four.
The fastest man and woman in the one lap event will win one of two Team Sky’s Pinarello Dogma F8 Tour de France team bikes. The fastest male and female squads competing in the team time trial will win a sailing trip on one of Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing’s high-speed catamarans, which can travel at speeds of up to 40 knots.
Yorkshire submits bid for 2019 UCI Road World Championships
The WorldTour trio set times at a launch event earlier in the year for the event, which will help raise money for Operation Smile, a charity which repairs cleft palates for children in developing countries.
Swift was the fastest of the Sky riders, with a time of 6’57” for the single lap, and the Yorkshireman’s time was almost 14 seconds faster than Intxuasti, with the Spaniard close to 20 seconds faster than Deignan.
Operation Smile’s Chairman, Maria Moore, said: “When you see parents reunited with a child who’s had cleft palate surgery, you realise it’s a pretty special thing.”
“There is a huge amount of skill and finesse in surgery of the palate. We’re working on a ‘safe surgery’ drive, bringing first world standards of care wherever Operation Smile goes abroad.”
Event entries start at £35 for the one lap challenge, the 10 and 25-mile TT challenge entry fees at £45 and £55 respectively. Team entries cost £140, and the first 250 British Cycling members who sign up will receive a discount.
Silverstone race course has seen British Grand Prix victories of Clark, Stewart, Prost, Senna and Schumacher.

The 9 up TT is a great event and we would like to welcome all past participants to the event on 2nd October. Get in touch if you have done this event and we will arrrange for you to have a discounted place. British cycling members also have a discount. Sorry one of our photos of Team Sky, Ben Ainlsie Racing, Stuart Hayes or India Lee at Silverstone laying down the lap challenge times
hasn't been used. We will get in touch and try and rectify that.
Lovely picture of the Bicester Millennium Cycling Club's annual 9-up Team Time Trial event. It's held every June, is run entirely by volunteers and raises over £10k per year for various national & local charities.
