Spoke cards - US charity ride combines cycling with poker

Seminole County, Florida, will later this month host a charity bike ride with a difference – one in which participants will pick up playing cards en route with the aim of achieving the best poker hand by the time the ride finishes.

The 2nd Annual Seminole Cyclists Poker Run
takes place on Saturday 28 August and aims to raise funds for the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), a charity that supports women under 40 who suffer from breast cancer.

During the ride, cyclists will ride between bike shops on a specified route of 30, 65 or 75 miles, and will be dealt a playing card at each one, with prizes being awarded to the cyclists with the best poker hands at the end.

Following the ride, which costs cyclists $50 to enter, food and drink will be laid on as well as live music.

With poker and cycling both being fast-growing leisure pursuits, it seems a great idea to us to combine the two for a fun ride in support of a good cause.
