Box Hill's Zig Zag Road during the London 2012 Olympic Games men's road race (copyright Britishcycling.org_.uk).jpgBox Hill's Zig Zag Road closed this week for essential repairs
Zig Zag Road on Box Hill, the most popular climb for cyclists in the southeast of England, will be closed until Friday this week to allow maintenance work to be carried out.
The National Trust, owners of the Surrey Hills beauty spot that was used in the London 2012 Olympics and now features in the annual Prudential RideLondon sportive and professional race, said on their website:
Important notice - The Zig Zag Road at Box Hill will be closed from Monday 28 November to Friday 2 December between 9am and 5pm for essential repairs (Thurs closed 09:00 - 23:59). The café, toilets, shop and servery will closed Mon - Thurs that week also.
Signs had been placed on the climb, which was the most popular Strava segment in the UK in 2015 last year, warning road users of the closure - here's a picture of one posted to Twittter by National Trust site manager Andrew Wright.

The road is due to open at midnight on Friday morning.

Was it one HGV going up there or 56,000 cyclists that did the damage (for once)?
Drainage or Water supply works I'd guess. So expect pot holes and trench lines sinking.
May be reinstating the verges again?
It is a lovely bit of tarmac, I wonder what they are repairing. Knowing our luck they're going to top-dress it...
Was about to make a rude comment about the general state of the roads in Surrey and then saw that NT are responsible for doing this work for what is just about the best bit of tarmac in Surrey!
