A big and broad selection of cycling clips this week. There are deserts and lots of snow, and then not enough snow. But mostly there’s a lot of mud, and snow covered mud. And a pink rabbit and a song and a feather boa.
Iran
Iran probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind for a bit of cycle touring. The original plan to enjoy a beautiful mountain route from Tehran to the Caspian Sea is thwarted by bad weather, so the plucky pair head towards the Persian Gulf battling chaotic traffic to get to stunning scenery.
Tracklocross San Francisco
Cyclo-cross on fixed-wheel track bikes, what could possibly… At least it’s warm and dry.
THE SNOW CHALLENGE - Snowfixed VS Ski VS Sled
While we’re on the silly, here’s a man on a fixed-wheel snow-bike being overtaken by a man on a sledge in a rabbit suit.
Winter Miles
With some fresh snow, a crisp blue sky and some ambient music winter can be a lovely time to ride.
IKEA PS 2017 LIVE IT
This is the story of Kelsey Phillips who quit her studies in microbiology to become a bike messenger. An arty romantic film about a non glamourous job.
Car Park Climb
As a sideshow to the Tour Down Under there’s the Car Park Climb, a race against each other and against the clock up 6 levels of the Rundle Place multi-story car-park.
PEDAL TO PEAKS | NORWAY
A small team of skiers strap a ridiculous amount of gear to bicycle trailers and pedal through arctic Norway with the intention of finding some good skiing along the way. Thwarted by gear failures, scary tunnels, bailing partners and a distinct lack of snow they’re forced to have a look at the futility of their actions.
Lake Como - between landscapes and legend
Here’s a triumvirate of chaps from Bikelikealaker doing a beautiful but chilly ride round Lake Como, taking in the famous Ghisallo and the Wall of Sormano climbs.
For the Love of ‘Cross
‘Cross is the delicious muddy itch that gets under your skin and must be scratched according to Specialized, and here some of their sponsored riders share their thoughts on the what makes ‘cross just as much a religion as a sport.
Bart Wellens takes a look at the World Champs CX course
It’s the Cyclo-Cross World Championships this weekend in Bieles, Luxembourg. Former cyclo-cross Pro and two times World Champion Bart Wellens takes a look at the course for nieuwsblad.be/ and it looks like conditions are proper wintry
But when you get it right….
Actually, make that very wintry. Riders are having trouble in practice traversing this snowy icy slippery off-camber descent section of the course. Proper ‘cross then.
It's all about balance
But Mathieu van der Poel shows how it really should be done. We’re definitely getting the beer and frites in to watch this race.
old skool, new skool
Back in September last year legendary frame-builder Tom Ritchey visited The Bicycle Academy in Bristol for a fillet-brazing masterclass and bike ride. Here’s the teaser for the full-length video that should be out any time soon.
Biketown YYJ
Biketown is a celebration of cycling in Victoria, British Columbia. The video is a parody of “Downtown” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, you might need to watch that video if you’ve never heard of the song before so you can get all the visual and sonic references in the Biketown video. Biketown features the people and places that make Victoria the cycling capital of Canada as it embarks on its Biketoria Initiative, and they’ve even got Lisa Helps, the Mayor of the town to appear in the video and lip-synch along. Amazing. It’s simply glorious, more feather boas in cycling videos please.
At least one of those videos should encourage you out on the bike this weekend. If it’s raining there’s always the car park. Rabbit suit optional.
